When you’re planning a hotel stay for a monumental occasion, like a birthday or honeymoon, hotel office manager Trang Phan suggests it’s good to let the hotel know so they can deliver a special treat before you arrive.

This isn’t a fail-safe method to score free prizes, but talking with CNN, Phan suggests you’ll often find small surprises in your room if you notify the hotel ahead of time of the milestone. Phan suggests calling the manager at least a day before to let them know what you’re celebrating. If you’re lucky, flowers, a complimentary bottle of wine or a small keepsake will be in your room.
