DIY Magnetic Ironing Mat

Ah, ironing boards. They serve their function, but it seems to take as much time to get them out and put them away as it does to actually do the ironing. If you have basic sewing skills you can make an ironing mat that magnetically attaches to the top of your dryer, taking significantly less time to get ready than an ironing board.

Sewing weblog Thrifty Craft Girl gives full step-by-step photos and directions. You’ll need two yards of fabric, a few magnets and a yard of Insul-bright batting. You’ll sew the two fabrics together with the Insul-Bright as the insulated core and sew a few magnets in place on either side. If you have a sewing machine it should be a fairly quick project to make.

Of course if you like the idea and your sewing skills are nonexistent, you can also buy a commercial version, but the ones currently on Amazon aren’t highly rated due to being a little small and the magnets not staying in place.
