Refresh Stale Bread With Celery

If your bread is starting to go stale, you can always make croutons or bread pudding. But if you still want to use the bread for a sandwich, just add a stick of celery to the bread’s plastic bag, seal it and let them sit together overnight. In the morning, the bread should be as fresh as when originally purchased.

The tip is provided by chef Michelle Karam of culinary website DishesbyMichelle.com. The bread slowly absorbs the humidity of the celery overnight. As celery does not have a strong flavour, this should not affect the taste of your bread as would other vegetables.

This may not be your go-to trick every time you need to refresh stale bread, but you can add it to your list of tricks for softening bread along with using a microwave and sticking it in the oven with aluminium foil.
