Telstra Starts Selling iPad 2 Next Tuesday

Telstra started taking expressions of interest for contract purchase of the 3G-enabled iPad 2 last month, and now it has a firm on-sale date: Tuesday November 15. How does it compare with Vodafone, which also started selling the iPad 2 earlier this year? We’ve got the full pricing details.

A couple of things to note before we get to the inevitable table: Telstra won’t be selling the iPad 2 through every physical store (there’s a list here), and the tablets will only come with iOS 4; you’ll have to upgrade to iOS 5 yourself. Telstra is also selling the 16GB model outright for $720, which is $9 lower than Apple’s own price.

As you’d expect, the plans are more expensive than Vodafone’s relative to data allowance, and there’s no 24-month option. I’d still be buying outright, but if your budget means a contract makes better sense, your choices are now broader.
