Make Better Soup In A Crock Pot By Using Less Water

The crock pot is one of the best tools for low-effort cooking, especially for meals designed to cook over several hours. If you’re adapting a regular soup recipe for the crock pot, however, you probably don’t need all the liquid specified.

The Kitchn offers this handy rule of thumb for improving soup in a crock pot (a.k.a. slow cooker) by using the right amount of water:

Put all your ingredients in the slow cooker and then pour the broth over top. It should cover the vegetables by about 1/2 inch. If you have excess liquid at the end of cooking, remove the lid for the last 30 minutes to let some of it evaporate.
