When I tested Telstra’s airport LTE 4G performance last week, I noted that Melbourne didn’t perform as well as Sydney but that Telstra had said equipment upgrades were in the offing. After testing the service again in the international departure area, speeds do look better than a week ago.
As you can see in the Speedtest graphic, ping times, downloads and uploads all came through well, and the 4G signal display ran to a full five bars. Of course, like all mobile broadband, performance will be inherently variable, especially as more LTE users sign up, but it is the first time I’ve sat in the international Melbourne lounge and not sworn for a couple of years. If you’re not across the whole LTE rollout, check out our comprehensive guide.
