Rock Babies To Sleep With Your Android Phone And An Arduino

DIYer Ben Heck shows us how to lull babies to sleep by mimicking the motion of a moving car, using an Android phone and an Arduino kit.

You may have noticed that some babies fall asleep more easily in their car seat than just lying in bed at home. The motion of the car on the road calms them down. Heck shows you, step by step, how to use the Android Open Development Kit (an Android-focused Arduino kit) to create a car seat that rocks your child to sleep all on its own. You use an Android phone to “record” the feel of a moving car with the accelerometer, then mimick that motion using the Arduino. It’s a very cool project, and if you’ve never worked with an Arduino before, it isn’t a bad one to start with, since Heck walks you through each step pretty well. Check out the video above to see it in action.
