You can buy veggie chips in the grocery store, but the ones you get are usually marked up because they’re “premium products” or supposedly healthy. Considering making your own carrot chips or sweet potato crisps is as easy as getting the vegetable, cutting it thin , seasoning it, and baking it, there’s no reason to empty your wallet for a tasty alternative to potato chips.
Over at Chow, there’s a list of great veggie chip recipes that are easy to make. Among them are carrot chips, taro chips, sweet potato crisps, and even kale chips. They also include some delicious dipping sauces that would go well with the veggie chips, like a jalepeno-cilantro yoghurt spread and a white bean and edamame hummus. Admittedly those dips probably also take a bite out of the health benefits of making your own veggie chips, but they definitely boost the flavour.
For example, the sweet potato crisps can be made in as little as 20 minutes: 16 minutes in the oven and 3 minutes cooling, all while you’re waiting to dig in.
