ProtectYourVision Helps You Take Breaks To Avoid Eye Strain

If you stare at a screen all day you’re going to go blind. OK, well maybe that isn’t set in stone, but you’ve heard it before and likely experienced eye strain if you spend most of your day looking into a backlit display. ProtectYourVision is a simple (and somehow cute) web app that helps you take regular screen breaks so you don’t ruin your eyesight.

When you get to the site you’ll be guided by a little cartoon robot named Evo (pictured above) who will help you set up your break plan. By default you can choose a 20-20-20 plan, which means you take a 20-second screen break where you look at something 20 feet (6m) away every 20 minutes, or a 60-5 plan, which means you take a five-minute screen break every hour. You can also set a custom plan to take breaks when you want. When break time comes, ProtectYourVision will beep and ask you to take a break. When you choose to do so, it’ll black out your screen until the break is over. (Of course, you can override the blackout if you need to.)

ProtectMyVision also offers multiple themes and can give you eye exercises to do during the breaks if you really want to make the best use of your eye fitness time.
