StreamToMe Now Live Converts And Streams Media Between Macs

Back in November when the Mac App Store was announced, an OS X version of Air Video and Stream To Me was at the top of our list. Stream To Me came through and now you can stream audio and video between your Macs, wherever they are, with live conversion. As you can see in the video above, the Stream to Me Mac OS X app is pretty much identical to the iPad version. That’s hardly a problem because it provides a familiar interface and works just as well. One of the nice benefits of Stream to Me is that it allows you to stream more than just video content, unlike its main competitor Air Video (more info).

Stream to Me for Mac OS X works with the (also) free Serve to Me app, available for download on the Stream to Me site for Mac and Windows, but you’ll need to do a little port forwarding in order to stream remotely when away from home.

All in all, there’s very little to complain about. We’d love to see conversion queuing like Air Video offers, but other than that it’s hard to argue with such a great product — especially when it’s available free of charge.

* P.S. When I said in the video that I didn’t want to put anything in the video that was going to bother anybody, I was not referring to the content of 30 Rock but rather YouTube’s content-scanning algorithms. I was expressing concern that YouTube might view the example as a copyright violation if it played for too long and failed to express that well. Sorry 30 Rock, I love you!
