Fix Size Issues In An Otherwise Perfect-Fitting Button-Down Shirt

Sometimes a great button-down shirt in a store or second-hand fits great in every way but one. Buy the shirt anyways, bust out a sewing machine (or phone to call a skilled friend), and fix the fitting issue yourself.

The ManMade blog details a clever method of sewing up a shirt that doesn’t fit right around the hips, or has sleeves that just don’t sit right. Before you sew, though, make the shirt fits right in the mirror:

  • This method is called the pinch and pin – so do just that. Begin with the sleeves and pinch the fabric until it’s tight around your arm, but you still have full range of motion. Pin it from the cuffs to the arm pit.
  • Then do the same thing around your torso. Since most men’s shirts do not have seams in the back, pull the excess towards the side seams, and pin from the arm pits to the waist.

Hit up Man Made to learn how to fix a shirt with a great look but imperfect fit.
