Google Places Shows Nearby Spots Quickly, Now On iPhone

iPhone: Google Places shows you what’s nearby — ATMs, petrol stations, coffee, restaurants — using simple buttons and your phone’s GPS sensor. Now it’s available for iPhone, along with the group review/recommendation HotPot service.

Places is very convenient for wandering unknown towns and cities. Its default categories are pretty helpful, but you can add your own search categories. If your bank is HSBC and you want to avoid ATM withdrawal fees, that’s the search you add to your Places home page. You can also search near places you’re going to be near with an address entry, and Google’s implemented instant ratings right into the app. It’s available now for iPhones via iTunes or by searching Google Places in the App Store.
