Avoid These Overused Phrases To Make Your Resume Stand Out

We’ve shown you a few phrases to avoid to keep your resume relevant, and this week business networking site LinkedIn totaled up the 10 most overused buzzwords on their users’ profiles. Here are a few more phrases to stay away from.

While it varies from country to country, the 10 most overused bullet points in LinkedIn profiles in the US include:

  1. Extensive experience
  2. Innovative
  3. Motivated
  4. Results-oriented
  5. Dynamic
  6. Proven track record
  7. Team player
  8. Fast-paced
  9. Problem solver
  10. Entrepreneurial

Instead of using trite, bullet point phrases, LinkedIn recommends being more specific and noting your actual accomplishments in previous jobs. So, instead of saying “extensive experience”, say you have “eight to 10 years of experience” and that you “increased sales by 300 per cent”. Hit the link to see more overused words to avoid, and be sure to check out our previously mentioned list of overused canned responses as well.
