Use Tin Foil To Give Furniture A Vintage Patina

If you’re looking to refinish a piece of old furniture and jump on the metal-accented furniture trend at the same time, this novel DIY project combines tin foil and paint to create the appearance of aged metal leafing.

Design and DIY blog Vintage Revivals shares a clever DIY technique for giving a piece of furniture a unique and aged look. They used tinfoil, Modge Podge—a clear craft glue—and paint, to create the appearance of well-aged metal leafing on an old night stand. You essentially layer the foil on, swab it with paint for the distressed/patina look, and then seal it with the Modge Podge to keep the foil and finish from getting scuffed off. Their technique looks like it could be easily adapted to other objects too, like putting a fake patina on bowls or other decorative objects.
