Most people pick their desk based on the space they can jam it into — “Open corner? Corner desk it is!” — and treat different desk layouts as though they are largely interchangeable. Pick out your desk based on your workflow needs.
Home and technology blog Unplggd has put together a guide to picking the best desk shape and design for your space and needs. They’ve highlighted the pros and cons of corner, L-shaped, U-shaped, along the wall, centre of the room and double-bar desks. Here’s their take on an along-the-wall desk:
+ Stable desk.
+ Will fit in many rooms and moves well from home to home.
+ The entire desk is usable, no dead space.
+ Can be recycled and put to use in other rooms of the house (i.e. as a dining table).
- No clear delineation to split computer/writing spaces.
- Who wants the wall as their view?
