HyperDock Brings Window Previews, Dock Enhancements To OS X

Mac only: If you wish you had Windows’ Aero Peek-like window previews in OS X’s Dock, free app HyperDock brings them to OS X, along with other window management features.

HyperDock is a preference pane that adds a few handy features to your dock, most notably the ability to mouse over an icon and see all the open windows associated with that program. Clicking on any of those windows brings it into focus, or un-minimises it if it’s minimised. iTunes and iCal have special pop-ups, iTunes’ containing the currently playing song and controls, iCal’s listing the day’s upcoming events.

HyperDock also adds the ability to assign keyboard shortcuts to each individual app in your dock that let you launch Exposé, open Safari tabs, Finder windows and other such things. You can also resize windows, switch spaces and even emulate Windows’ Aero Snap feature. Basically, it cures any Windows 7 envy that a Mac user might have.

HyperDock is a free download for Mac OS X 10.6 and up. It’s currently in beta and it may cost a small, as-yet-to-be-determined amount of money after its final release.

Apple, Microsoft, Linux co, Sun (Solaris) et all have always copied off each other.

Just because one group had a good idea before the others does not mean the others didn’t share the idea or have it in development at the same time. More importantly again, it does not mean it should not be copied O.o

Also, as “Guest” said, it’s not Apple copying Microsoft, it’s a random company.

Oh, and because i’m a funny bugger ;) Microsoft “invented” the “dock” first. Check out Windows 1 :) No really, i’m serious, I love doing this to the “Mac Geniuses”. Always a laugh.

The 10.6 requirement is disappointing. I wonder if its a technical limitation?
All my mac’s are still running 10.5 I think.

Just tried this out and it’s really good! A big plus is that it allows you to close a window without switching to it.

This is really something Apple should have implemented themselves.

Waitwaitwait, you couldn’t close windows without switching to them? I’m amazed.

I just came here to comment that I was amazed that OSX didn’t already have window previews and now I find this.

I’m so amazed I may have to lie down for a while.

Note this switches your GPU into Nvidia mode so eats battery life.
