Google Halts Wave Development, Shutting It Down By End Of Year

Sad news on the Google wire today, at least for fans of the next new thing. Google announced, in a post filled with examples of Wave’s innovations and strengths, that the real-time messaging and collaboration tool hasn’t seen “the user adoption we would have liked”.

As such, the search giant won’t “plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product”, but will keep the servers on through 2010 and incorporate aspects of Wave into other Google products. Many of us Lifehackers obviously dug Google Wave and are sad to see it go, but it seems like features like contextual spell check and web-based “robots” could find a new home.
