iPhone/iPod touch: If you’re interested in getting beyond automatic mode on your camera but don’t have a lot of time, the free versions of Photo Tutor Module Lite 1 and 2 explain the finer points of aperture and shutter speed on-the-go.
I’ve got a DSLR sitting on my nightstand, and I’m ashamed to say after seven months of owning it, I still only have the vaguest notion of the differences between aperture and ISO. These two apps demonstrate how changing your aperture and shutter speed changes the light and sharpness of the photo, and you can fire either up any time you’re out and about with your camera and need a refresher. In addition to these two settings, the apps will teach you the “recipe” of how certain effects are created. If you find it useful, you can pick up the paid versions on iTunes, which offer more such recipes.
