Google News Archive Search Includes Full Scanned Papers

Lifehacker AU

If you still enjoy reading newspapers in a semi-traditional format, Google has a fairly substantial archive of older papers in scanned form that can be searched from its Google News Archives section.

Inevitably, the content is dominated by US titles, but there is content from The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age on offer (though not past around 1980, it seems, and with some periods missing). There’s a few niggles in the interface — dates are often interpreted in US-centric mm/dd/yy form, and sometimes the results seem to revert to a broader Google search without explanation — but it’s still a great way of digging into history while staying online.
