iPhone Releases OS 3.1.2 Update, Fixes A Few Bugs

Apple has just pushed out an update for all iPhone generations in the form of iPhone OS 3.1.2. Don’t expect any major feature updates in this 241MB download, but do expect a few fixes to some annoying problems, most notably:

  • Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone not to wake from sleep
  • Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt mobile services until restart
  • Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video stream

Now if only I could get an update that “Resolves issue where your stupid phone thinks headphones are plugged in all the time, even when they’re not, so you can finally answer calls without a headset plugged in” I’d be a very happy human being. To get your update on, plug in your iPhone and click on Check for Updates in iTunes. Jailbreakers: You’ll probably want to wait on this one. [via Gizmodo]

Just take it back… In my experience Apple are pretty good like that…

I get the opposite problem, my phone things I don’t have headphones connected when I do (randomly) so all of a sudden (after pausing and resuming playback) my iPhone starts playing my music through the speaker, generally when I’m on the train.

The Headphone problem is very common (I replaced two iPhones earlier this year). Cotton wool bud is commony recommended to clean the sensor.
This update fixes 2 bugs I’ve noticed since the last upgrade… it’s an unfortunate side-effect of continual updates that we occasionally break perfectly good software!

I had a problem with my iPhone when the headphones were plugged in I couldn’t answer calls and people couldn’t hear me, The mic wouldn’t work and the headphone button wouldn’t work properly. Funny though, my wife’s headphones wouldn’t work either but worked in her iphone.

Took it to Apple thinking the iPhone was faulty, to my astonishment, fluff/lint in the headphone socket can really cause some problems. Worked perfectly after a clean out ;-)
