Charley Boorman On The Ultimate Travel Essential

Actor and adventurer Charley Boorman might specialise in roaming the world on motorbikes and other odd vehicles, but his ultimate travel essential turns out not to be mechanical at all.

Speaking at the Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, Boorman was asked by an audience member what his essential piece of travel equipment was. His answer:

My sleeping bag. That’s the one thing that is utterly essential. When Ewan [McGregor] and first started Long Way Round, we had so much stuff it was ridiculous. You quickly realise you can buy stuff outside of Britain. But getting a good night’s sleep is the most important thing . . . baby wipes as well.

As a dedicated compact packer, that sounds like wise advice, though I think I’d still prefer a laptop and a hotel room.
