WinLayout Moves And Sizes Windows With Your Numpad

Any idea on mac equivalents? I made the switch a few months ago (dual booting Win 7 on my boot camp obviously :) ) but I can't find anything to mimic the amazing Windows 7 resizing or something like this.

Everywhere I go people say about the mac resizing "you'll like it once you get used to it!" and "less is really more!" but I don't and it's not. This is my biggest qualm about OSX still.

Surprisingly Windows 7 already does this, but in the mean time I use Split Mon.

@piesforyou: Same. One of my first installs on new machines. I found out about it at Lifehacker... is this any better? It sounds like it actually has fewer features than Winsplit Revolution.

If you're on linux and want keyboard based window management, try a tiling wm like Xmonad or Awesome.

Very similar to WindowPad (found on the AHK forum [www.autohotkey.com])

WindowPad is an AHK script, and comes in at 20kB (or 230kB compiled), uses about 2.5MB of RAM on my system.

Provides a 2x2 grid for each monitor, allowing quick screen switches, maximizing and minimising of windows, and easy resizing to half or quarter screen.

Seems to do a similar job to Winsplit Revolution. Winsplit revolution is one of my MUST HAVES for software. You can configure exactly how many different areas windows will snap to (better than a 3x3 grid). Also does always-on-top and some other nifty things.

@piesforyou: I even prefer WinSplit Revolution to the Windows 7 window-snapping stuff. Super small and simple, no ostentatious effects, no problems, just works like it's always been there.

It was made by the French, though.

Windows7 already has this...you can move any window across monitors or up or down using WinKey and the arrow keys...

I use reSizer to work with my windows on my multiple monitors, and I really like it. It's very simple but it does the job. I can't re-size the windows based on pixels though. [zestant.googlepages.com]

@piesforyou: I absolutely love Winsplit Revolution and I agree, It is a "MUST HAVE."

My one complaint, though, is not being able to position and size windows by pixels. Everything is done with percentages.

I'm curious to see if this program will do that.

Great idea. Doesn't work well with multiple monitors (Win+2 centers the window on the split between the monitors, not the middle of the current monitor)

@shallnot: Any version of windows, no utility needed: Hit Alt-Space to bring up the system menu for the current window. use cursor arrows or hot-keys to select Move or Size and hit enter to select. Then use cursor arrows to move/resize. Hit Enter when done. Hit Esc to cancel your operation.

There's probably some similar key sequence to access the menu in OS X.
