Songbeat 360 Brings Back Seriously Easy Music Downloads

Windows/Mac/Linux (Adobe Air): Songbeat, the search-and-click MP3 downloading app of, erm, questionable legal standing, has returned as a cross-platform Adobe AIR app. Just like before, it’s like an old-school Napster for one-off MP3 grabbing, with one small caveat.

The app itself works much the same as its previous incarnation. Search for artist or song names, double-click a track to play it as a stream, or drag it to your Library shortcut to download it. You can also “Discover” an artist you’re checking out and see related artists and their discography, and check whether they’re touring in your area any time soon.

The one major change to Songbeat is that searching for an artist or track now costs you a credit, and installing Songbeat starts you off with 50 credits. Actually downloading or streaming a track doesn’t cost any credits, oddly, but searching on Songbeat’s own servers does. You can get another 1000 credits for $US15 via PayPal if you dig Songbeat’s service, which should certainly hold you over. Still, 50 searches and unlimited downloads should hold over those who have missed their tools for tinkering with the music industry’s business model.

Songbeat 360 is a free download for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems loaded with the Adobe AIR platform.

I don’t agree to pay for searches, what if I don’t find what I need and I was wondering how legal can it be this time if in the first place it was sued by Warner Music? I say pass to this tool!!!!
