FeedRoller Puts RSS And Twitter Updates Across Your Monitor
Windows only: If you’ve got extra monitor space to devote to up-to-the-minute news, FeedRoller can puts your RSS feeds right at the top of your screen.
Design-wise, it’s just a black banner that scrolls, but FeedRoller has quite a few handy features. You can adjust the age of the news it displays, determine how long your cursor is auto-hid in the black news area before it appears again, and configure hot keys and colour schemes.
Those hot keys can accomplish nearly every function of FeedRoller’s. You can pause the feeds, unpin it from the top of the screen, visit the article being displayed, and enter Do Not Disturb mode for a set period of time. When the ticker is paused, you can scroll with your arrow keys (or mouse wheel) to look back through the previous headlines.
FeedRoller is freeware, available as a portable application, and Windows only.

Nice...if only it sync'd with my Google Reader account.
Near the end of the list of "Things I have time to do cuz I'm just not that busy" is "#738: Maintain multiple RSS feed lists".
True story.
Looks vaguely familiar... [en.wikipedia.org]
Oh, man, that's nifty. When it comes time to customize the crap out of my desktop, I'm gonna have to look into this.
This is great I was looking for something like this months ago. I wish there was a way to get my local weather in there and maybe a calendar.

Just substitute your zipcode for 10001. It's only a few posts, a couple of times a day, with very little distraction.

If I installed this, I'd never get anything done. I'd be going about my business and then suddenly--ooh, shiny! I fire up the feed reader once in the morning, *maybe* at lunch, and that's it.
I'm partial to Rainmeter for things like this. I've got RSS feeds, weather, photos, and the pitching matchup for the day's Red Sox game on my desktop.
