Why not replace bloated reader with PDF-Xchange, Foxit, or somethign else with browser integration.

This Google Viewer is highly gimped compared to a real PDF viewer..

@1112: Weird now it seems to work for me even if I'm logged out.

Apparently you must be logged into a Google account, else you get a login screen in the embedded object.

And of course there's no way in hell I'm going to enter my google credentials on another website (phising galore). So I had to open up a new tab, log into gmail, then refresh this page. Not to mention the size is small and useless.... which is why I don't get PDF-Xchange to open PDF's in the browser, but in a new window.

Now people without PDF software are assumed to be logged into a google account?

Who wants to make an extension/greasemonkey script to replace the embedded adobe PDF viewer with Google's?

@1112: Because I don't want any plugin loading. I've already got a fully featured browser, and plugins just cause trouble.

@jeffk: I notice that with the Zoho viewer, the URL is a zoho.com-specific URL. Does it requrie uploading the file, or does Zoho simply create its own URL that references the source URL?

The Google blog says, "Some other sites that offer similar features: Zoho Viewer, PdfMeNot."

Google and PdfMeNot did a good job viewing my resume, but Zoho Viewer futzed with the fonts (which are embedded in the PDF).

check [userscripts.org] for a userscript which sets all pdf links on a page to open in google's embeddable viewer.

I've been using Posterous for embedding .pdfs, which seems to work ok, too.

@RMSlack: I don't think it's possible because what Google does is upload the pdf to their server and generate png images from the pdf. Sp if your intranet is not accessible to the outside world, google cant convert it.

Is there a way to do this within an Intranet?

The intranet site is not available out to the internet, this is not working for me, but something similar would be a great solution for posting documentation on the front page. Thanks
