Automatic Downloads New Torrents…Automatically

Mac OS X: Free preference pane Automatic lets you subscribe to virtually any content delivered via RSS, automatically downloading everything matching your preferences. That means podcasts, videocasts, and feeds of your favourite torrents—like for your favourite TV show.

A tool like Automatic works particularly well with something like previously mentioned ezRSS, a web site that creates custom feeds for individual TV shows. It’You’ll still need a BitTorrent client to do the rest of your downloading after Automatic grabs the torrent file (we’d recommend Transmission).

is there an app that does this for windows or linux but NOT for torrents? specifically an automatic downloader that will download audio & video delivered through RSS?

Vuze has been able to do that for a while now. It's definitely my favorite torrent app.

Does anyone know if there's something like this for Rapidshare or Megaupload?

It doesn't work with all private torrent site rss feeds. I sent an email to the author about it and he has yet to get back.

Sites don't work if feed is formatted as:
[xxxxxxxx.net:xx]]=x&uid=xxxxxxxxxx&passkey=xxxxxxxxxx:COOKIE:uid=xxxxxxxxxxx;pass=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

@Kraken: Vuze is also available for Windows at least, maybe Linux also - not sure.

@Kraken: I loved Vuze on my PC until it starting sucking down all my resources. Went back to uTorrent that I had abandoned when I was running into crashes that I couldn't alleviate.

Subscriptions aren't a big deal b/c it's common place now. However, it is nice to be informed when a new option shows up.

i think that Vuze is the best because it has built in protection for blocking out unwanted peers from bluetack or something like that. Just give it a link once and it will stay updated permanatly. I think that it was featured on lifehacker before. Vuze did a good job of subscriptions for a while, but then with an update, it just started sucking and it was faster for me to get the torrent by going directly to eztv.it to get the torrent.

@Kraken: I used to use Vuze as well... until I tried uTorrent. Vuze is like the bloated ugly pig sister program to uTorrent.

I've been using this with Transmission for a while. Works great and uses almost no resources. The panel launches a process in the background every 30 minutes (or whatever you set it to) and grab any torrents that match your rules. Very resource friendly.

Then I just have Transmission watch the folder.

I tried Automatic a couple of months ago, but it doesn't work with private trackers.

Does both this and "ted" support inputting your own feed? I want to specify where it downloads from...

@UnMicD: Vuze is available for PC and Mac. But it's a resource hog. I use uTorrent beta on my mac, and it works great, now with this app it does everything Vuze did that I liked, without eating all my clock cycles and RAM.
