Windows 7 Upgrade Pricing Still Messy

We’ve complained before about the confusing and overpriced cost for upgrading to Windows 7 if you’ve purchased a Vista-equipped PC recently. Fujitsu’s recently-announced pricing provides a clear example of how consumers aren’t getting much of a deal.

As Nick over at Gizmodo reports, Fujitsu will charge $28.95 to ship Windows 7 upgrade discs to purchasers of selected models. While that’s not a lot of money, it still seems a bit unfair given that Windows 7 will appear in October — and doubly so when you consider that even Microsoft charged half that to ship a disc from Singapore for Vista SP3, which seemed bad enough at the time. On the whole, waiting until October still seems like a better move if you’re planning a new Windows PC purchase right now.

On a related note, August 20 is the last date you can download the Windows 7 RC software from Microsoft if you’re planning to do so.
