RealDVD Killed Off In Court

RealDVD, the bold attempt by Real Networks to offer a legal DVD ripping solution, was shelved in October and has now lost its first court case.

The judge didn’t rule on whether consumers have the right to make backup copies of their media, but stated that Real Networks didn’t have the right to sell them a tool to do so. Real’s antitrust suit against the movie giants remains in play; in the meantime, be glad you’re able to rip full DVDs on your own.
