Homemade Floating Speaker Takes Your Tunes On The Water

Whether lounging in the pool or tubing down a river, enjoying warm weather and water shouldn’t separate you from your tunes. Check out this speaker modification project to create a waterproof, tune-blasting buoy.

Don’t be turned off by the red ketchup container that houses the sample build here, as you can use anything plastic with a wide-mouth lid for the base. The design is straight forward. You’ll need some basic tools, some speakers you don’t mind doing a little warranty voiding on, and an mp3 player to put inside as a source for your tunes. Add a little hot glue and a sheet of plastic over the speaker cones, and you’ve got yourself a floating, tune playing speaker buoy. Check out the video below to see the creator’s test run in a backyard pool.

Have a creative speaker hack of your own to share? Waterproof or not, we’d love to hear about it in the comments.
