Interesting. It might look good depending on the environment that the monitor is situated it. I've got a pretty old wooden desk that is just ginormous, this desktop might look good with it. Theme the computer to the desk...

Thanks for featuring my desktop, I came across it accidentally and was so surprised when I saw it! The excess of rudeness in comments surprised me as well, I mean, what’s the point? I suppose having the luxury of being a faceless commenter gives negative minds free reign to be insulting. Just a few words… I customize because I have FUN doing it. I don’t want a MAC. I’ll keep using XP till it’s not supported. On MY screen, the coloring is bang-on and not grainy. The font used was NOT Comic Sans, it was HandelGotDLig. I used the blind because it tied in best with the wall. If I knew how to edit a skin, all apples and flags would be forever banned because I hate logos. Sorry to Bree & Martin for the trouble with Firefox, Frankell is right, it was NasaNightLaunch that I used and not RulerDark. Thanks to those who commented in a positive or constructive manner. And thanks to all the skinners out there creating skins and sharing them with us. It would be a pretty grey world if we all saw things the same way.

Are you really saying that people should be using the failed Os that is known as Vista?
As you pointed out, it IS 2009 and as such, we expect people to be a bit more informed and maybe logical in their choices when using a PC. Therefore the decision to use XP is actually a sound one, when you look at the failings of subsequent attempts at a workable OS by microsoft.
Windows 7 looks promising but until it is finished comments like yours are laughable.
XP really is the best OS by microsoft to date and many top techy people agree.

@Aitese Odigie: I don't understand your complaint either mate, this looks like a great desktop. Very natual and organic wood effect as a nice complement to the high tech of the PC.

@aarste: You're right, I mean that point was all over the Microsoft literature. If Vista didn't suck so bad, Microsoft might never have developed another operating system... ever.

Oh, wait... I'm running Vista and it is rock solid, compatible with everything, and has plenty of on the surface and under the hood improvements over XP. When I have to fix computers that run XP (which is a lot), I find it nearly unusable compared to Vista.

@Patrick Lerner: Maybe you should read up on why Windows 7 was developed. In short: to fix the failure that was called Vista, XP users are hanging in there until 7 comes out :)

either this is a grainy JPG or BMP or this theme isn't very clean-looking. The color scheme is off, the black menu and lines look out of place; the cursor is horrid. If you're going to make a wooden-based theme, at least make it look good..

This is the worst desktop I have seen on here. It's pretty bad, with it's faux Apple start menu, and bad icons.

@Patrick Lerner: I still use XP as my primary desktop.

I also still drive the car I bought the year XP came out, use the pocket knife I bought the year before XP came out, and wear the boots I bought five years before XP came out.

I'm not arguing for keeping an older OS for the sake of keeping an older OS, but like the other three items I mentioned XP keeps working the way I want it to work and I keep letting it ;-)

@Patrick Lerner: Some of us (points to self) are students/unemployed and can't afford 2009 yet. Anyway, I'm waiting for 7 to come out (don't know if I will be able to afford it before May 20010, so I didn't install the RC).

@zewz: I agree, it looks kinda messy and thrown together.

@Patrick Lerner: It is 2009, we're in a global reccession, and there's no justifying buying a new OS for no reason, especially if your PC is low-end :(

@CaptainSquishy: Ha ha. The only reason why you can customize windows as much as people do is because it's been hacked to death. Windows 7 is a little better about it, but still not nearly as customizable as your average Linux distrobution (the one operating system that really actually lets you customize everything). However, I do agree if you're going to be running a windows desktop, don't put an apple logo on it.

Lifehacker is getting cleverer . why dont' we go for some mac or linux desktops. The windows+rainmeter+dock+ a central theme is rather boring . Ya, these are good and the developer must have spent loads of time upon this , but think we need reinnovate something here.

It's so sad when desktop modders use apple logos in their mods, specially when OSX barely lets you change the wallpaper.

Give some love to the windows logo!

I do like wood look. [I'm a sucker for that] However, i think what i don't like is the overly "sculpted" look. It looks too neat. I believe that imperfection is perfection. I guess i like a little clutter. But this does look usable for you. And ultimately, it's what you like and that's best suited to your preferences that matter most.
