@UnMicD: I think you're definition of value may be different from mine. I understand that you think the work that went into the concept is less than pristine, but honestly it's not the design that I care about, it's the content. And for $1, to be given the information that is provided here in as easy a way as an iPhone app, seems more than worth it to me.

I'm just too old school, I guess. I've got a distinct hate of Flash when I see something that can be done without it.

@Buddha916: is it not required for phones to be off in cinemas in the US? it is here (Ireland) and although there is always some idiot who thinks the rules don't apply to him, dirty looks, throwing things and in extremity asking them to put the damn thing away are all encouraged.

@Asherek: but seriously, leaving to pee has to be allowed. if other people irritate you so much, then I have a simple hack for you: just don't leave your house.

@polyGeek: Thanks polyGeek. Why not release two versions of the app, online and offline (for the ipod touch users). Although i guess that would be a hassle to have to update each one, rather than just put an "offline" option in the settings.

Sorry, but if you're that pregnant and can't control your bladder, maybe you really shouldn't really be out at the movie theater in the first place? This whole sense of entitlement of "I can do whatever I want just because I can" is starting to irritate me to no end.

There's a huge laundry list of stuff that drives me crazy with people at movie theaters, and that includes cellphones and people who can't sit still/keep quiet/constantly getting up and sitting down.

Oh, and not to mention, dragging their kids to movies/events/places that they're obviously not old enough to understand or enjoy. Sorry folks, if you bring a child into this world, it's my firm belief that you have given up the so called "free rights" to do whatever the hell you used to do before you procreated.

Either stay home with your kid/have one person go out at a time or hire a goddamn babysitter.

Sorry, had to rant there a bit.

@DangerousLiberal: Nope, I usually turn movies into $10 naps, somehow. It all started with Tropic Thunzzzzzder, and then Babylon (and on, and on, and on) A.D., both in the same weekend. Fighting (which really should have been called Talking), and Terminator Salvation are the most recents.

@njso18: I support plasma2002 on this, as a developer myself. The webapp, when I saw it (at the time that LH spotlighted here) was functionally pretty shaky and had some questionable design decisions, which doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence in the iPhone app, even if it did pass Apple's pre-release review process. Nothing is being offered here that's worthy of paying for.

What you might have over-looked is that the entire site was done in Flash, and now I see exactly why. It's so that you can't access it from Safari on your iPhone. People who give your broken stuff just to sell you a fix annoy me. And this app is just a GUI for invoking a half-dozen or fewer web services, it's less than a day's work to set up. The whole thing reeks of shady marketing and shoddy work.

@jlarroulet: I take it just going to the toilet before you go into the cinema isn't good enough?

Don't forget, phones should be OFF inside cinema screens, people around you won't like you much if you've got yours on.

@Brian.wav, I get that a lot. This isn't some startup project with funding and a staff. I built this by myself. It was more of a tutorial project than anything else because I wanted to learn how to create database driven Flash applications. I suppose I could have created it with HTML but then I'd probably still be working on it.

I think that all theaters should have a copper mesh faraday cage built into the walls around them. Maybe then I'll start going back to theaters.

You know what's even better than an iPhone version? A version of the site not rendered entirely in Flash... thus making it accessible on any mobile device!

@OHdulcenea: What did you do about that before this app was released? Nothing wrong with the app--but does anyone actually watch movies during movies any more?

How about just wait for it to come out on dvd/bluray. Then, put it on pause and go take a piss? Is that so hard? Some really questionable apps for people of questionable smarts. Times like this, I wish I had a Digg button. I'd bury this turkey. It's that dumb.

@atomicrabbit: I also have an iPod Touch. Unfortunately, it does require a connection, but they're working on an offline version now. Look for it as part of the rolling updates mentioned above. Hope this helps...

@veronykah: Love Arclight, if only for the reserved seating.

@atomicrabbit, The app in it's current state requires an Internet/AT&T connection. However, the first update - being worked on right now - will allow the app to store data so that it will work offline. In addition to adding the vibrate feature to the timer so that people like @Buddha916 don't go atomic. :)

We didn't want to add these features to the first version of the app because it increases the chances that Apple will reject it for some reason and we wanted to get the app out for our fans ASAP. Now we can take our time and and some really cool features to it. So if you don't get it now be sure to keep an eye out for the update.

Welcome to the Arclight in Los Angeles. Assigned seating, no cell phones, no late arrivals.
You pay for it, nearly $15 for a ticket but they also have a bar and 21+ movies you can take a drink inside of.

@Buddha916: I do agree with the bladder control thing. If I can survive a 5+ hour work shift without peeing, you can manage what is at most, a 3 hour movie sitting focusing on something fun.

@plasma2002: Yes, actually, you are cheap. The drink that you bought that is now causing you to bee costs more than this app. Honestly, it's a dollar. Most people bring home a buck's worth of change at the end of the day. If it was $5 I would understand strictly because the web version is free, but i'd rather pay $1 than see ads any day. A song can cost more than this app now, for crying out loud.

this is actually really smart.

I hate it when we're sitting in the theatre for 15 minutes watching all the useless garbage advertisements and (sometimes garbage) trailers, and then the theatre dims the lights and the movie is about to start and my wife says "i have to pee" or "i want some chocolate".. ugh ... I mean I don't particularly care if SHE misses the beginning, but something happens in the middle of the movie that was explained at the beginning and I end up having to explain to her why it happened. >:|

I'd rather she go during the RunPee suggested times so I don't have to miss something while explain things to her.

Does RunPee require an internet connection? I have an iPod Touch that I would love to install this on, but it would be pointless for me if it requires an internet connection.

Ummmm, I do have an idea for adding - OPTIONAL - sounds to the app. Stay tuned.

@plasma2002, I had to contract someone else to build the app. I'm a Flash Platform developer and know zero about Objective-C/iPhone apps. So the app had to be paid for somehow and I have very little time or money. If you're waiting for a free version of the app you'll probably be waiting until the iPhone supports Flash. Sorry.

The color scheme for the app is a little bit much though. I appreciate the black, cause you don't want to light up the theater, but yellow? Isn't it enough that you have the "pee" in the name of the app? How about a tinkling noise at start up? How about when you're done, you have to shake it a bit before closing? (that one's for the guys)

I got all excited about this being on the iPhone now... but then i saw that it costs 99 cents.

I may sound cheap, but i really think this should be a free app for what it provides. Speaking as a developer myself, this is not a complicated iPhone app. It simply gets some text from the webserver.

Im not downloading this until its free. Hell, if the devs REALLY think it should make money, put ads in it. Just dont put an upfront cost to the users. Not yet at least.... not until its amazing.
