I started folding our towels this way so they would fit in three stacks in our tiny linen cabinet. OK, OK! I did it so that all the ends would look all pretty and uniform to satisfy my OCD!

I learned this exact way of folding from an episode of Step-by-Step (ABC's family night TGIF, remember, REMEMBER???).

I prefer my old way of folding towels into eights for long-term storage, because it's flatter and more stable in my linen closet. In the short term, towels go directly into the bathroom from the dryer. I use this for my hand towels though.

Hey, that's the NAVY Way! Luckily I still do it that way to this day, so just imagine how much time I've saved.

I still fold my Tshirts (undershirt types) the boot camp way. It is the best way to fold them to take up the least space.

Yep, that is how I was taught to do it at the hotels I work at; that and rather than steps three and four above, fold the long towel into thirds again,to make it a little flatter.
Too bad I can't get my fiancee to do it the same way, she just folds it into quarters.

Huh. I've long since stopped folding my bath towel when it's on the bar in the bathroom. Given the climate where I live, folding it just means that it's still damp the next morning when I dry off, and that way lies moldiness.

Holding it long side parallel to your body, fold in half, then fold in half again. Now fold right side in, then left side in.

The fluffiness of you towels will determine the thickness, but the when arranged so no edges or folds are exposed, it makes a great presentation.

well, my mom fold towel along shorter side first, then about 1/3 of longer side, then rolls it and keep it that way. i can tell it's more practical this way...

Methinks this is the way we were taught in boot camp. Woe be to the person who folded it wrong during inspection.

I have a notebook full of how to fold all of the gear (yes, they made you take notes). I may have to bring it out and see if there is anything worthwhile in there.

How else do people fold bath towels? I was taught to fold towels this way by my mother when I was a child.

I only use towels once. I don't tend to leave them hanging around in my bathroom (I think regular towels in bathrooms looks tacky).
I found that rolling your towels is an efficient use of your time and space though.
If the towels in the pick were rolled up yu could probably fit another two or three in there with it.

This is how I learned to fold a towel from my Mom. The wife always thought I was nuts, good to know I'm not the only one that uses this method.

@I Wear Nice Hats: ARMY, i still fold my kids' clothes army style. I roll their underwear, towels and tee-shirts. It's very convenient.

I usually just fold 'em (width) and roll 'em (length).

This way I can squeeze them upright together in a wide basket. The main advantage I see with this method is that you can take one particular towel out and it will not destroy the whole pile (assuming some towels are different than others and you cannot simply take the one on the top of a normal stack.)

I know two shelves of towels that are going to be neatened in 5..4..3..2

I never knew there was a different way to fold. I think my mom learned this from her dad, and my dad learned this from Martha Stewart when my mom yelled at him for 'folding the towels wrong'.

This is going to sound really silly, but I love this post. I've now learned that the way I tend to fold bath towels takes up entirely too much space when compared to this method!

This is how we fold them in the hotel I work at. Nice and efficient.

The way I fold my towels depends on where it's going and how often its used. For towels that say a guest will use and we don't expect another house guest for awhile, then it is folded to fit the plastic bag we store it in (the kind you get when you buy new sheets or slipcovers).

Otherwise we do similar to the above and fold it so that it easily just drops over the bar.

LH: I think you should do an article on folding fitted sheets like the guy links to in his post but also include the way Peter Walsh showed how to do it on Clean Sweep!

I fold them in 1/2 lengthwise then a horizontal fold. I pull them out of the closet and have to undo ONE fold.

@brownize: an article on folding fitted sheets would be awesome - I tend to end up with big wadded lumps in the linen closet instead of nicely folded sheets
