Firefox 3.5.1 Security Update Coming Later This Week

@cha0tic: I never had such problem with 3.5. It seems faster than 3.0 to me.

As usual with every major Fx update, I completely removed everything Fx before installing the new major release. All of this is happening in a clean Fx 3.5 installation.



Problems I'm having.



1- Checking my google mail has become a thing of luck when it comes to Fx. Since day one on Fx 3.5, checking my email has becoming synonym of Fx crashing and sending the report to Mozilla. Mozilla should have received around 12 crash reports from me in less than 30 minutes, as I was troubleshooting to see which page and what was causing my browser to crash.



So far it looks like the problem is the new JavaScript engine in Firefox or something



2- Another thing that i have come to noticed is that secured/encrypted webpages are not broken or become broken after being on it for a bit. NOTE: These are websites and pages I regularly use and that never did anything like this with my previous Fx 3.0.11 installation.



Everything goes well but then out of the blue I get a browser notification window telling me that the page is not fully encrypted anymore that now is just partially encrypted. These pages are to be fully encrypted. These browser notification windows sometimes show up, or times they don't. When they do show up is at different times frames, never at arriving at the page as it should be. It is not normal behavior.



I knew the problem was becasue of Firefox but I was in denial given the fact that they pushed and pushed the released date so many times that I was expecting its release to be far superior that Fx 2.0 or Fx 3.0 for that matter. Anyways, good thing Mozilla is fast with these fixes.

Firefox 3.x uses over 500mbs on my system, and thats when started in safe mode without any addons.

Clearing out WINDOWS and IE temp spaces as a "fix" for someones decision to use those files/folders to generated random seeds was an absurd fix to the slow startups.

FF needs to focus on why it was started to begin with. An alternative to IE that works.

If you're familiar with the development track of Firefox 3.5, this update is merely a hard-coded workaround to fix startup time.

3.5 may have had a JS upgrade, but it was not a speed release. It was a postponed "catch-up" release.

It's odd to see FF falling behind. They really need to look past marketing themselves and focus on web again.

Has anyone else noticed that 3.5 renders pages very slowly? It also takes it along time to download all of the pictures and whatnot (really slow, even on a ~20 Mbit connection).

I also get that server cannot be found error alot.

FYI: Firefox has been updated as of 1:05am EST July 17th. Woah.

All I can say that I have been extremely unimpressed with 3.5...

It's very slow, and it crashes a lot. I had absolutely no issues with the previous release. Hopefully it will get better, but the 3.5 release for all of its hype has felt like a step backwards for me. :(

@ColetteMilda: No. My company runs 10 systems with Firefox running continuously.

@Wolf-: This was due to missing Windows functionality and not a Firefox problem. I'd go into it more but this is not the place.

@ArJay: Personal problem. Fix your system. I maintain 10 systems with no such issues.

Great - because on my 64-bit Vista Home Premium system it is slow as molasses in winter. Not just the start-up but in using it as well.

It loaded on my pooter this morning, now Google Gears is not working! They just got the thing fixed lol.

Oh boy. OT This last week has been a bad one for browsers on Gawker. Seemed like FF had nothing better to do than spike my cpu into the upper 90s.

It is a Tracemonkey issue, from what I've read. Go to about:config, type jit It should list two items in 3.5. Set them to false until you apply the update. That is what I did in any case. I never got the promised increase in js speed, so I just turned tracemonkey off. It will stay that way until reality matches the blurb.

I noticed that 3.5.1 is already on their ftp server. I always use FTP rather than IE to download it on a new/clean machine.

I get those server error's alot, thats why i downgraded

My Firefox 3.5 always crashes overnight when I leave it on. Anyone else experience the same thing? I run on a 64bit server btw.

Mine is having problems restoring the previous session. every time, which isn't fun.
But other than that, it hasn't crashed or anything.

@dclong2008: hey. applied SP2 for Vista yet? it's supposed to "speed it up".

@HeffeD: my you two have some serious PC problems. FF 3.5 is just fine except the slow start-ups. once loaded i never closed it. it just keeps working.

maybe you could use some deep scanning of your PC's to find out what's causing the crashes.

@HeffeD: And I thought I was the only one who couldn't get Firefox 3.5 to stay running for more than a minute or two at a time.

Restored from backups and will wait a while for 3.5 to become stable. (Same as I had to do for 3.0) Common Firefox! Even Microsoft isn't this bad.

Gawker comments script appears to be.... changed in its behavior... again... I have 3.5.1 with the latest version of the script (unless there is one newer than July 10?)

However, the comment box is less gummy. I don't know who to credit for the bad or the good changes.
