TubeMaster++ Updates To Make Grabbing Videos, Music Even Easier
Windows only: Last year we shared TubeMaster Plus with you, an extremely handy program for downloading videos and music from streaming sites. TubeMaster++ has been released and comes with a slew of new features.
TubeMaster++ makes grabbing streaming videos and music incredibly simple. As long as TubeMaster++ is running, it will grab nearly every kind of media you watch over your internet connection thanks to its ability to scan the incoming data and not rely on the browser itself. Whether you’re watching a video in Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera, as soon as you start watching it, TubeMaster++ will begin capturing it.
You can save files, play them back right in TubeMaster++ and convert them. What formats can you convert into? A better question would be what formats can’t you convert into. You can convert audio formats into WAV, MP3, OGG, and AC3, among others. Video can be converted into dozens of formats and presets for mobile devices including the Creative Zen, iPod, Blackberry, PSP and PS3, various mobile phone sizes, and more universal formats like AVI and MPEG4.
TubeMaster++ does lose one feature from its predecessor — because of dependencies it has on installed software it is no longer portable. The trade-off will be more than worth it for most people however as the new version is more stable, offers more features, has a built in video and music search engine, and has dropped upgrade requirement to download from adult video-sharing sites. TubeMaster++ is freeware, Windows only, and requires Java Runtime Environment and WinPcap (both of which are included in the installation if you don’t have them.)

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I recently reinstalled it and all other applications function fine. All parts of TubeMaster function but not the capture function. I have installed the latest version of Java. I have used both version 1.0 Beta and version 1.1. I have even run it in the Administrator mode. No matter what I try it still will not capture.
I have used it at several download sites with 9 different browsers and it still will not capture anything anywhere.

@pale_blue_eyes: I was wondering the same thing.....if it is worth it to get rid of Orbit and download this. Any input appreciated!

@Chris Memering:
It is absolutely legal product. You can see they are mentioned you can grabbing data only from streaming web site.
Integrity--;
@Chris Memering: This program is legal.
Most streaming sites however, will state in their TOS that you can't download/cache their content.
So using this tool to grab content is a violation of TOS.
It's also stealing content.

How about things like Gawker's videos? They don't seem to use popular services like YouTube, but serve the video themselves?

@powaking:
...With the Handy ASK toolbar?
Of course!

@Chris Memering:
The better question: 'is it illegal'?
Answer: No. It's a freeware.

@Bryan: I honestly dont care, I have always wondered why these kind of apps dont get shut down. Dont get me wrong, I have already downloaded it and tried it out, but I was just wondering about the legalities of it.

Better than Download Helper?
@DrScottyB: I've used it for several videos and mp3 files, and it's fine. It has a few minor inconsistencies, but they're UI things. Overall it's a fantastic tool and hugely simplifies what until yesterday was, for me, an arduous task. The video and mp3 search are good, too, without as many dead ends as you'd expect. I'll be keeping this on my PC for a while.
@DrScottyB: Yeah. Not too keen on the fact that the file doesn't have a "valid signature" either. Didn't install it.

there is always this add in for mozilla

@Chris Memering:
I may be naive, but why do you care?
@atomicrabbit: there download app has a trojan.

@PixelProphet: I constantly use that but it can't get myspace music.

what about [vixy.net] ??
atomicrabbit
Why would you want to use another program to do so? Just download the firefox plugin DownloadHelper it does all the work for you

Anyone know how this compares to Orbit?

@DrScottyB:
I did notice that visiting the WinpCap or Java Runtime page produced an extra popup ad page... Not a great sign.
I just gave this a shot for some Quicktime movie trailers... NO DICE.
It grabs FLV clips just fine, but so can I by simply grabbing them from my temp folders.
Disappointed
Something about their site that feels malwareish or adwarey... It looks generic and mass-produced. Has anyone noticed anything sketchy about the app yet?
I was hoping this would work with Hulu since my satellite service at home is too slow for streaming. Apparently it only grabs a few ads though, and not the actual content.

Does this grab the higher quality feeds for music? I use FreeYouTubeToMp3Converter ([www.dvdvideosoft.com]) which works very well, but it doesn't download automatically (I don't need that feature)

I like the straight forward UI, color and obviously the purpose of this tool. I would turn off the instant capture at play, I don't want to save everything I watch.
@enderx: guess you are right, but with the big push of DRM and stuff like that, it just seems they wouldn't want this kind of application out there.
Chris Memering
@Chris Memering: is taping a show off the TV illegal??
enderx
Could just use this. Works well with Grooveshark

Are these "legal"? Seems like an easy way to steal music, tv shows, etc...
Chris Memering
I obviously meant 'Anyone'..!!!

Any care to highlight the difference between this and videoget? VG is not free and grabs videos for websites that it supports whereas TM++ seems free and scans traffic. How about the performance?
