Sydney - not exactly an off-peak discount, but a good money-saving trick nonetheless. If you buy a TravelPass after 3pm, the week it's valid for doesn't start counting down till the next day - meaning you get free travel on the day you buy it!

The prices of fares in Canberra are actually increasing as of tomorrow.

An off-peak daily ticket for an adult is now $4.50 as opposed to the standard daily ticket which is now $7.40

Also - if you hold a 10x 2 hourly, if you validate this twice in a day it turns into a daily.

Found this nifty trick when I caught the nightrider home at 3am (expired at 6am), then validated to go to work the same/next day at 10am - expired 3am the next day. Saved me a fare for my trip home :)

It should be noted that students do not get off-peak discounts on CityRail. They pay one single discounted price at any time of the day.

Also, when you validate a 2 hour metcard, it is two hours from the NEXT turn of the hour. So, for example, a 2 hour metcard validated at 9:01AM will remain valid until 12:00PM...

In Melbourne, if you validate a 2-hour metcard after 6:00 it will remain valid until last services.
