Notify Mee Sends An Email When A Downed Site Is Working Again
Server crashes, site maintenance and traffic surges are among the reasons why your favourite site may be down. Regardless of origin, all you’re left with is a broken link. Notify Mee can help.
While sites like previously mentioned Down For Everyone Or Just Me? can help to determine if the problem is on your end or if the problem rests with the site you’re trying to access, just enter the afflicted web site’s URL or any other link you’re trying to reach and include your email so that Notify Mee can inform you when the site is up and running again. If the problem is on your end, Notify Mee will skip the email and let you know that the site is working fine.
More and more commonly we’re noticing that sites we feature on Lifehacker aren’t quite ready for the traffic our eager readers supply, so this service seems especially useful in situations where a site is down for a prolonged period of time and constantly checking its status becomes frustrating.

@Tanner Wood:
Ok so apparently it was submitting. It just provided no feedback to let me know it has accepted my submission.
Since I clicked the button multiple times I got multiple junk emails from them later today (over 4 hours AFTER my site came back up). They could probably save bandwidth usage costs if their software acknowledged the request and only accepted 1 from each user. <- if it did that I could have avoided 7 emails and only got the first one.
So, there you are, an honest opinion on how useful this thing really is (not very)

@OCEntertainment: Just about to say that haha. Comment win.

I'm sure you probably know already, but...

Just this morning I said to myself, "Self, what you need is more ways to clog your inbox." I log into my LH feed and here it is!
I kid...this looks useful. Thanks!

Yes, but can it tell me when/if TVRSS.NET ever comes out of its coma?

For personal sites I would check out aremysitesup.com the free version does 5 domains and SMS updates and email alerts.
I tried to use the site because currently *my* site is down.
I can't even get the damn thing to submit. Tried in FF3.5 and IE8. No data validation error, just click and nothing happens.
Big fat failboat

I'm waiting for the Lifehacker Effect to take its toll on this site for maximum irony.
Also, they don't seem to recognise .co.uk domains - try entering google.co.uk and you get "Please enter valid email and/or website."

I don't like the fact that notifymee tweets your downtime to the whole world, perhaps there's room for a premium service that keeps it private.
I've been using the 30 day trial of pingdom recently, which gives me a text message when one of my sites goes down. It's a great service but I'm not sure I can justify the expense just for my personal blog. For a commercial site I'd definitely use it though.
@Tanner Wood: "Big fat failboat" I like that. Never saw that phrase before. Funny! Thanks.

For me, when a site is down, it usually means my whole freakin' interweb tubes are down. Don't suppose the email would help me much.

And what if your email site is down? Damn Gmail.

My personal favorite for a service like this is Are My Sites Up? which you guys covered here:
[lifehacker.com]
And interestingly enough, I reviewed once and again after they added their premium plans and enhanced services:
(link to the original review is in that one)
Even without the premium plans, Are My Sites Up seems to offer a little more in terms of features and notification options.
NotifyMee Fail: "We are having some problems right now but will be up as soon as possible."
Perhaps there's room in the market for NotifyMeeTwo.com?
*sigh*
