Windows/Mac OS X: Apple’s popular digital media player iTunes updated to version 8.2 today, most notably preparing iTunes to play nice with the upcoming release of the much-anticipated iPhone 3.0 operating system (you know, the one that’s finally adding copy-and-paste, MMS, and notes sync).
Apple doesn’t offer much in terms of a change log on this one, other than:
iTunes 8.2 now supports iPhone or iPod touch with the iPhone 3.0 Software Update. iTunes 8.2 also includes many accessibility improvements and bug fixes.
I wasn’t able to grab the update through the traditional Check for Updates dialog, but you can get the latest through the iTunes download page. [iTunes 8.2]

After installing the iTunes update, I did a check of “about iTunes” just to confirm the verson number, and instead of the normal screen showing the version number, I got the “jewelcase 1.8″ window with a link to their web site – how strange is that – did this happen to anybody else?

Update 8.2 is very annoying. I usually use iTunes DJ, and now whenever I look at any of my playlists, it totally renews the songs in the DJ, which I don’t want to happen. I’m going to rummage around in the preferences to see if I can turn this off.
And oh yes, dozens of songs were removed. I wouldn’t have known this if I hadn’t synced my iPod and it reloaded all of the songs…well at least I _hope_ it reloaded all of the songs.

Update is only just due to go live, and I suspect international customers will experience quite a bit of lag.
