XBMC Releases Maintenance Update With 9.04.1
Earlier this month the cross-platform media centre phenom XBMC released version 9.04, jam-packed with cool new features, and now the quickly developing app has released a small maintenance update to squash a few bugs that made it through. Check out the brief changelog for specifics, or just point your browser to the download page to get the latest. [XBMC Download Page]

@deanhatescoffee: I remember seeing a script over at XBMCScripts.com that did torrents. The site seems to be down now though. Personally I would just setup rss feeds in your torrent client & auto download to a share folder. Then point XBMC to the share folder.
@Johnjoe0110: Not very soon. Microsoft has the 360 on lock down. From what i've read over at xbox-scene back-ups are as far as you can get although exploits are always being looked for
@Johnjoe0110:
I haven't kept up with the 360 scene as much but as far as I know the 360 still doesn't run unsigned code so XBMC or other homebrew software won't run at all.
@deanhatescoffee:
There is a plugin for the xbox version that will let you download torrents straight to the xbox.
@deanhatescoffee:
XBMC is just a media center. You can download torrents while you run XBMC, though. :-)
...does anyone have any idea if / when XBMC is likely to become Xbox 360 compatible?
@Gener4l_Ts0: I am running it under Windows 7 and haven't noticed any issues.

Can you download torrents through XBMC or is it just a media center? On the same topic, does Boxee allow you to download torrents through the program itself?
@Sensai: Not only do I use on my HTPC, but I've got it on both my laptops so I can have a media center and my library pretty much any where.
@Gener4l_Ts0: There is a Windows build, but it's not as far along as the others. No idea if it works on 7, but you should give it a shot and let us know.
I'm thinking of building a little shuttle box and putting this on (Shuttle: sn78sh7--to make use of HDMI onboard) and curious if anyone else really likes this or alternative. I installed XBMC on my game box, hooked it up to TV, but that was a while ago, since then I've been using VLC for one-off movies but looking for something that can manage a library so reconsidering this as an option for HTPC.
Does it work on Windows7 RC ?(well)
Well, you could use your xbox (which is already hooked up to the TV) as a network extender, and play your files over the network. Which is wonderful, FYI.

@Sensai: Well that, and those of us who still update the build on our Xboxes.

Is there any reason to use something like this on something other than a dedicated, hooked up to TV media center PC?
I either don't get it or I'm underestimating the amount of people who have hooked a computer up to a TV.
i have this on my PC and i absolutely love it..
the scrapers work well and it runs stably...
i don't have a box so i don't know how it runs on that..
but is it possible to run scripts and add ons on the windows version? I can't seem to get it to work

@Simon Cheng: From what I know a lot of the extensions are broken due to changes in the latest versions. E.g. the CallerId script I maintained for a while no longer works & requires re-coding. Just don't get the time to look at it these days.
i have been using XBMC since 2004 and use this program daily for media entertainment. i primarily use xboxes and/or AppleTVs in every room as media extenders and serve all media content from my windows home server machine. boxee will be a better app eventually, but is quite unstable now for regular use.
i always welcome updates to XBMC, but actually have older builds on most extenders and they serve me quite well...
