Thanks Dan. I will give it a go. And in regards to the expiry, I think my mum does not use the PC for more than 2 hours at a time. So the expiry annoyance(rebooting after 2hours) will not really matter too much for a little while.

I have a P4 also that had XP on it. I clean-installed Windows 7 onto it and it runs like a dream now. It boots up in 1 min as opposed to 3-5 mins in XP; it looks great & the revamped taskbar is so intuitive and time-saving.
I’d recommend you give windows 7 a try. But you must keep in mind the March 2010 expiry date.

ok, I need some advice. My mum uses a Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM PC to browse the net, use MS Word, open email attachments etc…

What will be faster for her? her above PC with WinXP or Win7?

getting 1.4MB a second on my 20/20 FiOS conenction

I disabled Java in Firefox and was able to download it.
