Sender’s Time Zone Makes Outlook Better

This works for me when I open a message (@jonny6pak: it works properly for message I get from the West coast sent to me in the East - I wonder if there could be a server setting on your end that modifies the time info already).

My issue is that it does not display in my replies because I use Word as my editor. Since that's a pretty common environment for many Outlook users, it might be more valuable if the add-on could send that data to Word (maybe display in status bar?).

Seems like this is the kind of thing that would work when a bunch of different stars align, but since that might only happen hapf the time the tool itself ends up not being very useful. Would you travel abroad with an automatic simultaneous translation device that fluently translated your words 60% of the time and issued total gibberish 40% of the time?

In this case, if the sender's computer is set up wrong, or their company's servers are all configured for a certain time zone, or they're traveling, or any number of other things, the information would lead you to take the wrong action or look dumb (saying good morning to someone at dinner time), and you'd have been better off without it.

@jonny6pak: Ditto. I'm on the East, and I checked several different time zones, and it said they were all the same as me. Too bad.

Hmm... I'm in the Eastern time zone and it's showing people from Cali being on the same time zone.

Someone in TN has the same time difference as someone in Belgium. Fail. Uninstalled.

Sender's Time Zone Makes Outlook Better? Nope, it makes Outlook worse. First, for some reason it shows the 1 hour difference between me and people in the same building (who are on the same server). Second, it crashes Outlook when I close a message (I'm on Outlook 2003, XP SP3). Uninstall!

I was able to download, install, and use this plugin. All of my co-workers are in different time zones, so this is pretty cool for me.

@Satya: Oops! Responded to a wrong thread!I actually meant to post that comment against the "Gmail Time Zone Notifiers Prevent Badly-Timed Long-Distance Calls" article.

The download link on the site isn't working.

This would make much more sense for Google Voice, if the contact list shows that icon for each name.

useless for me. I'm in NZ, but the Exchange server is in OZ, a guy next to me sends an email yet it states he is in a time zone two hours ahead behind me. Not good. I wish we had a local exchange server :-(

Same here. Showing wrong information, I have uninstalled the add-on. Also Text formatting is not proper, its getting truncated.

this won't work if your Exchange server is in a different timezone. All mail items will appear as being from the location of the Exchange server, and doesn't use your local time settings.

Perfect for small firms or non-exchange users. Rubbish for almost any multi-national with exchanges either in one place or using UTC as a standard across the exchange server set up. oh well - this would have been great if it could be configured to choose between senders city in the outlook exchange address book or the SMTP timestamp.

Still, some people are clearly finding it useful so I'll wind my neck back in. I'm only jealous a bit ;)

It seems, that the plugin uses the mail servers time zone to detect the users timezone. Since we have a central mailserver for our global locations it does not help a lot. But in general it is useful when mailing to/with external contacts.

I am one of the developers of the Sender's Time Zone plug-in. Thanks for posting this, our web-site traffic have soared up since yesterday :)))
In fact, we created this tool just for our own use, but later on decided to publish it on the site just to see if somebody else can make any use of it.
The result exceeded our most bold expectations. Its page has become the most visited one for the last couple of days :)

Thanks for all the comments, we will certainly try to fix Exchange Server and Preview pane issues in the next version.
