RunPee.com Suggests The Best Movie Bathroom Breaks
Giant drink bottles and intricate plots are a dangerous mix. Get relief, and the most out of your movie-going money, with RunPee.com, a site that’s like a friend who’s seen every flick out there and knows when the bathroom break moments are.
It’s a simple idea that’s executed well on the web. The left-hand side has links to the current box office leaders and new releases, and clicking on one gives you the various timing points and narrative cues to head to the restrooms if your last stop before the cinema was a bar, coffee shop, or the concession stand. Choose a break point, and the top box explains what will happen right before you’ve got three minutes to make a run for it.
Want an example? If you’re checking out “Star Trek” this weekend, right when Capt. Pike says, “Chekov, you have the con,” you’ve got about three minutes of exposition ahead that you can probably pick up on later. If you don’t mind spoilers, or you’re attending your second showing, click the unscrambling button below the first cue to find out exactly what will be happening while you’re away.
Find us a site that helps you get back to your exact seat during dark and quiet moments, and we’ll suggest the ultimate movie site merger. In the meantime, RunPee.com is the second friend you can consult before picking a flick.

@docharry: Yea. Because everyone appreciates your glaring phone screen.

avoid caffeine and juice drinks all together. Pee before movie. no need for runpee. unless u have prostate or urinary infection then i wouldnt go to movies anyway.

LOL Read the suggestion for Hannah Montana: The Movie!
When can we start donating to this site? I would donate the cost of a movie ticket for a year subscription!
Michael Mantis
Oh I can't tell you how I hate people leaving while the movie is running. They block your view, distract from the movie. It's almost as annoying as all those brats with their mobiles. And now this site even helps them. Why can't people just go to the bathroom 5 minutes before the movie starts. Unless you have a disease you should have no problems then, even with a 3h movie. Of course you shouldn't drink 2l of coke during the movie...
Nice site, personally I've got a bladder of steel though.
And just as a personal peeve... the site didn't need to be done in Flash. Especially as that rules out use on iPhones and WM phones not using Skyfire or Opera.
Chalk this one up as the strangest item of the day. Of course, I just opt not to eat/drink anything while watching movies. I have never understood why people feel that chomping away on popcorn or candy and sodas improves their movie experience. I find the sound of people rustling with wrappers and popcorn boxes to detract from the movie experience.

This site was down yesterday because of billing issues. I am happy to see that it is back up. Where do you click to donate some cash?
Michael Mantis
@aaziz: You should get that checked. Seriously.
TheFu
Or you can act like an astronaut and just wear diapers.
TheFu
@garbanzo-bean: Yes. The Age Of Technology is wonderful my friend. Get off LH.
aaziz
DEAR GOD THIS IS WHAT I NEED. I take a leak at least 3 times during a movie.
aaziz
The site is opwn. "Suspended."
Bocachica
I remember during Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, that I had to run out when Gandalf released the floods on the Ringwraiths.
Oh the irony!
filpaul
Very nice site!
While skimming through the most recent releases, I had to see what breaks, if any, would be mentioned in the Hannah Montana movie. Haha!

Go home right after the previews and pee for as long as you please in the comfort of your own home. You wont miss anything.
Yes, let's start an after credit website. People shouldn't miss out on the real ending of Ferris Beuhler.

@tatsuyame:
Right at the beginning of the Hannah Montana movie?
Beginning of filming that is...
[developer.valvesoftware.com]
@dustinl15: Odd... I get the site just fine... my wife (from her work) gets the message "the account runpee has been suspended."
I think this is some sort of pro-bladder-blowout conspiracy group. Better get Tom Hanks on it.
Vengefultacos
@undefined:
Mobile version would only make sense,
HECK even better would be a Mobile app for Black Berry, that you can use with a timer, so you sit down and when the movie starts you click start.. then it counts down and vibrates 1 min before you can get up and go, then while gone you can read what you are missing!
That would be sweet.
Stephen De Rusett
I always thought it would be good to have a site that tells you whether you should stay after the credits. I've waited unnecessarily for many movies, and didn't wait for others. =/
razordu30
@Chris Arney:
Exactly... a mobile version please. Aside from not being able to plan a movie gig with friends, there's also the occasional need to know when the next most opportune time it will be to look up something on your phone or just not pay attention to what's on screen.
@dhlt25: there aren't 3 minutes of down time in Dark Knight, you are doomed to bladder pain
Kiri Komori
But will it tell me when to use my JARATE skills?
/tf2 update better come early today...damn valve time/
tatsuyame
Watch the (animated) RunPee.com logo at the top of the webpage!
have we really become so pathetic that we can't even take a piss without first consulting with the internet?
garbanzo-bean
They REALLY need to make a mobile compatible version of this!!! I don't always know ahead of time when I'm going to the movies, or even if I do, I don't always know what movie I'm going to see. This would be a great website to check as I'm waiting in line for my 1526oz coke!
Chris Arney
Or maybe they just went to the toilet.
Thank you, thank you.
Limitedappeal
having sat through the over 2 hrs torture with a large soda that is dark knight I can say that this is an awesome idea
dhlt25
Looks like someone forgot to pay the bill!
@Brain.wav: I agree on that. I didn't see anything on the site that couldn't have been done easily with some clever Javascript, CSS and a little bit of beginners' PHP/ASP.Net. Aside from the mobile device issue you mentioned, Flash also has more overhead than the other options I mentioned. It's hurting both the mobile availability and performance of the site.
Or you can suck it up and regulate your own bladder by not getting 6 gallon jug of Pepsi before you sit down.
Toribor
@garbanzo-bean: lol, "peeing into the cloud"
Angry Numismatist
@Brendt Waters: I had some issues with it too, I'm not sure it's a content problem, I think it might be a technical issue that's causing it to pull the wrong data sometimes.
@paix120: And there will be mid-movie line-ups, and everything on the site will need to be changed to reflect the need for a 10-minute break because once there are lineups, you can forget about the 2-3 minute pee breaks.
@Dai Tryon: Wouldn't you just pause it to pee?
@garbanzo-bean: There are many things that can be done without first consulting the internet. If consulting the internet makes that thing better/easier/faster/cheaper/more convenient, then why the hell not? Oh, and get off LH.
Some people have too much time on their hands. Just guess and go for it. Life is full of risks. Good lord.
Jimmer
@dhlt25: Just go, man...
If enough people start using this, you'll be a part of a group exiting the theatre at a certain point in the movie! "RunPee?" "Yep!"
paix120
OR, you could just wear a catheter tube that empties into a water bottle strapped to your leg!
Hoppes
I never get out to the movie theaters, but this site will really come in handy when I watch the movies at home on DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dai Tryon
@Stephen De Rusett: Sounds like a custom Android app -- because Google is so much into voice recognition these days.
No planning required. You need to pee, and run the app. It blanks the screen on the phone so that it doesn't light up, and records a few seconds of the current dialogue. It uses the recording to recognize the spot in the movie and sets a countdown timer. This timer displays in a light gray in big block letters - light enough to show dimly in the dark.
emellaich
Sigh. Wanted to try a movie I had already seen to test-drive the site without spoilers. Unscrambled the text, and it was a 3-line summary of the entire plot of another movie. Appears that all of the contributors aren't quite up to, er um, reality.
Brendt Waters
@razordu30: I always wait. Then you're not the guy who's blocking the "oh, crap, more film" part as you quickly sit down (see Yes, Man). Besides, the bathroom will be clear by the time you use it, since it's crowded by all the people who just left.
This RunPee site reminds of the website the guys were trying to start in Knocked Up.
Either it's a really slow site (looks like it's all Flash, so it's possible) or it's struggling under the Lifehacker effect.
Wow, I really wish I had this on Saturday. Watched Angels and Demons then but had to hold it!
tylerf
@razordu30: I've found the easiest solution to this is to head out and ask one of the guys waiting to clean the theater if it's worth waiting.
@dhlt25: I hear you. I saw that movie, large soda in hand, when I was about 8 months pregnant. I made it all the way through, without a pit stop, because I was convinced that I wanted to see every second of that movie.
lol @ Hannah Montana. "Go home right after the previews and pee for as long as you please in the comfort of your own home. You wont miss anything."
craig198
@aaziz:
What you need is a urologist.

RunPee creator here: I'll try to get to a few of the questions:
1-Site down: yep, it was on a shared server. Earlier this week my day high in traffic was about 650 visitors. Then it went from 10,000 to 15,000 to about 10,000 early in the morning before my host took me offline. I've since moved to a dedicated sever to handle the load. Crossing fingers that it stays up.
2-donations: dan@polygeek.com. Got to pay for that dedicated sever somehow. Thanks! :)
3-Why? I'm a Flash Platform developer by trade. I built the site because I thought it was a neat idea and I wanted a cool project to work on as I learned Flex and Database design. So this is really just a research project. Who knew? :)
I'll have more on the RunPee.com/blog/ - when it's back up.
I love the idea of adding a little note or something if there is anything worth staying for after the credits. It's on the ToDo list. You folks rock!
polyGeek
It official. The Internet has everything.
@janbaart: Diabetics pee a lot, and that's just a fact of life.
@paxman356: Ta-da!
[moviestinger.com]
@emellaich:
Like a Shazam app for Movies with a pee break plug in.
I was thinking along the same lines as I was looking through the website.
If or when the app is created, the developer could send a catheter to anyone buying the 'premium' version!?
bucky
Wow! Pee Hacking!
Great idea! SPOILER ALERT
I had to go during Star Trek, the first time during a movie in years. I waited for Kirk to get treatment from a doctor, knowing all I'd miss was some comic relief. I came back just as Kirk was informing Spock that they were running into a trap! Hence, I didn't really miss anything.
Jee... ppl. Seriously.
Besides - if the movie was A&D I would prefer a 2 hour toilet break... cheaper and way more fun.
It's already on IMDb
[www.imdb.com]
Given the name of the film, you can tell what's interesting during/after the credits.
It's a fairly lightweight page, should be viewable from mobile browsers.
