Nuke Anything Enhanced Removes Page Items For Printing

Firefox: Nuke Anything Enhanced makes it easy to print or read just one section of a web page, or selectively remove items like ads or sidebars that get in the way of your content.

This Firefox extension is similar to the Aardvark extension, but doesn’t offer font/color/layout tools—it just removes the things you select, or removes everything but the thing you select, all from the right-click menu. It can undo previous item removals, if you’re killing off a chain of them, and generally gets the job done with both graphical elements and text.

Here’s a quick, if somewhat low-energy, video demonstrating Nuke Anything Enhanced’s uses from Linux Journal:

@jarhead: Correct me if I'm wrong, but with Aardvark isn't the key "i" for "isolate" to only print what you have selected?

@kazemizuhi: Hmm, turning it off by clicking it again works in IE and Chrome... Can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work in another browser. Weird!

  • kazemizuhi

    +1 for PrintWhatYouLike bookmarklet.

Combined with the Design Mode bookmarklet that Protector one shared with us above, you eliminate the disadvantage of bloating your browser. This method is also browser independant.

  • kazemizuhi

@Protector one: Thanks! That is truly awesome... how do you turn it off though? Clicking the bookmarklet again doesn't work.

  • Confuzius

    I just use Platypus
    [addons.mozilla.org]
With greasemonkey it turns any page you're on into a wysiwyg situation and you can nuke or add whatever you want to the page and then if you want it permantantly like that save it as a greasemonkey script.

Makes my weathernetwork page pure zen.

I jumped at the early version of this and it proved a bit clunky.. is it as light as Aardvark?

@Protector one: nevermind, that is f*ck*ng awesome tip though

  • Dreadnought

That's great! I'll definitely use this some time for school! Great share Kevin!

@Protector one: we are talking about printwhatyoulike here?

  • Protector one

@Gonzie: You can enable inline html editing by turning on design-mode. You can toggle design-mode with the following bookmarklet:

    javascript: document.body.contentEditable=(document.body.contentEditable=='true'?'false':'true'); document.designMode=(document.designMode=='on'?'off':'on'); void(0);

It also helps to remove that "spaceball.gif" that is placed over images on Flickr. Just remove it, then you can actually copy the link to the image or just save it.

If a website isn't polite enough to provide a media="print" stylesheet then I generally just select the text I want to print then make sure I choose "Print Area->Selection" on the print dialog.

  • S@ndman

I also use for covert browsing at work. That is if there is if there is a somewhat questionable picture on the page I'm looking at I don't want it jumping out to people walking by my office.

I use printwhatyoulike, it's a nice site with a bookmarklet that gives you a few more options then just removing un-wanted test, like changing the font, coloring and enlarging test.

I prefer [www.printwhatyoulike.com] because it works on any browser rather than "just firefox"

I would be interested in in-line html editing though

  • ProductivityScience

Although not the same exactly but very similar in result is Scrapbook's DOM Editor ([addons.mozilla.org])

  • jarhead

Also a long-term user of Aardvark... the feature I like about Nuke Anything Enhanced is the "Remove Everything Else" option. Many times that is all I need. Awesome extension.

  • mfresco

Thanks for this tip. I'm a long-term user of Aardvark, but I think that Nuke works a bit more intuitive and quicker. Usually, you just want to delete anything but the selected text. With Nuke that goes very fast.

I have many of those in my bookmarks, but I still find myself resorting to a simple bookmarklet I have. No extensions, no redirects, no installations, works with all browsers, etc.

But again, my collection of bookmarklets is now massive. I would actually venture to say that I may have the most bookmarklets of anyone I've known.

  • Nabeel

So...we can nuke anything, anything at all?
    Nice...
    *evil grin*

  • jfairley

Ubiquity can also delete what's highlighted with the 'delete' command.

does anyone know what ff skin lifehacker uses?

Print What You Like for me too.

Anyone else having problems with youtube playback (wouldn't register clicks) after installing this add-on? I disabled it and it turned back to normal.
