MovieStinger Reveals Which Movies Have Scenes After The Credits
“Oh man! Did you see that extra scene after the credits? It was great!” Ever heard those words in the lobby after you’d walked out before the credits finished rolling? MovieStinger helps avoid that sort of disappointment by maintaining a list of which movies contain additional footage after the credits.
When we featured Runpee, a website that suggests the best time to make a dash to the bathroom during a movie without worrying about missing a good scene, commenter razordu30 had this complaint:
I always thought it would be good to have a site that tells you whether you should stay after the credits. I’ve waited unnecessarily for many movies, and didn’t wait for others.
Visit MovieStinger for a solution to this guessing game to find out which movies have a “stinger”—an extra scene or additional footage—after the credits. You can decide whether it’s worth to stick around based on information about what happens in those post-credits moments as well as ratings and comments by other users. Thanks, Andy.

I went to see "Batman Begins" with a group of people and we stayed to see the credits (as we always do). The projector operator apparently wanted to go home (it was a late showing and we seemed to be the only ones left in the theater), because the credits started getting progressively blurrier. We protested loudly, but it continued to get worse, eventually to the point that you couldn't even read them. When we left the theater, we saw a manager in the hallway and complained. He went and talked to the projector operator, then came back and told us that, "the print came that way." We said that was BS, so he offered to let us come back another day and watch the entire movie again. Needless to say, we did come back for a second showing and the credits were not blurry the second time around.
Lesson: Always stay for the credits!

we almost always stay thru the credits. i'm an old fart, and prefer the having the parking lot thinned out a little.
the muppet movie - i think that's the first stinger i remember.
and i SWEAR i don't remember pirates of the carib. #1 having a stinger ... but after the 2nd one came out, i think they ADDED a stinger to the FIRST one.
correct?
@Diet-Orange-Soda: Agreed. There are so many people that contribute to movies other than the faces on screen.

@four12: I'm a credit watcher as well. Even beyond the factoids/names I figure that I like to get credit for the work that I do and so do the people who worked on the film. I feel a sort of "duty" to watch them.
That is so cool. I rarely stay through credits. Runpee is an even cooler concept though.
EricChianese
I generally stick around through the credits. The way I see it, these people all worked to make a great movie, I can spare an extra ten minutes.
Brodie Krause
The site loaded really slow and most off the site still didn't work. Keep waiting.

If the list is comprehensive (and has pre-release info), this definitely works better than my usual method of searching Twitter. For the many midnight showings I go to, this would work a lot better. Searching Twitter really only worked on Star Trek...because they went and opened up a whole friggin' five hours too early.
But I digress.
Also, further proving Rule #34 of the internet....
Wait....that's not rule #34....
Pirates of the Caribean 2. My brother had said about there been some uber-awesome bit at the end. we sat through about an hour of credits(Orlando Blooms Stylist, Orlando Blooms chauffeur, Orlando Blooms taster, Orlando Blooms arm, etc) to have a 15 second shot of the dog in the cannibal village...
Glad I was informed of Iron Man having an stinger(nice to know the 'official' name of 'the bit at the end')
@Josh Lewis:
You READ movies?
what kinda crazy person are you?
@Dr.Jeckyl: Usually I check the seats for valuables during the credits!
It's nice living in a small town with an oversized theater. There's maybe 30 people in a theater that can seat 200. No crowds!
Brad
@Dangger: Believe me, if I knew of any, I'd tell you. I've been really dissapointed with them, StumbleUpon, Technorati... all these supposed tools for webmasters. I can't find anything even worth the effort of registration (I've used Digg for probably 50+ articles now, so I think I have the authority to make that statement). If you aren't Lifehacker, or a site that's already rolling in money, Digg isn't going to help you get new visitors at all.
I usually go to themoviespoiler.com , and just read the movie. Sometimes sucks knowing whats going to happen, but it would have saved me a lot of money for crap movies.
Josh Lewis
Booo. You should stick around anyway to see the credits!
Even you don't pay full attention to it, at the very least it gives you a moment to absorb what you just watched before diving back into the mindless wandering that is life.
@MCWHAMMER: alternatives please.
@BlackMage is doing the Time Warp agaaaaaaain!!!: Digg is so 2004. For a webmaster, it's pretty much the worst tool to add to your site. Digg sucks...
@four12: I do the same. Mainly to avoid the crowd rushing out.
@BlackMage is doing the Time Warp agaaaaaaain!!!: LH Effect. Happens to most sites featured. Just wait a day and you'll be fine.

I guess LifeHacker has its own "Digg Effect" now.
Still, an awesome concept! I may have to make this site a regular visitation before renting anything.
BlackMage is doing the Time Warp agaaaaaaain!!!
I usually watch the credits - if nothing else, you see some interesting names, learn where the movie was shot, etc.

Wow, all I can tell is that the film "Go Daddy" parks websites for FREE!!!
Hahaha nice work Lifehacker.

@redskull: Usually both for me... need to make a bathroom visit (Which is much easier to do when you watch movies at home, without missing anything).
Plus, yeah, after sitting for 2 hours, usually there is nothing I want to do more than get out of that horrible place (I haven't found a theater worth sitting in for longer than that, especially when the guy is trying to sweep under my feet).
Who cares about crowds... you just sat in a theater with 100 freakin' people (Well, ok, if you were watching a good movie, MAYBE 100, but let's not pretend that movie theaters have customers anymore), and suddenly, the thought of walking outside near people is enough to keep you in your seat?
Ah, I'm fine leaving thank you. Only comedies have good after-credit bloopers or gags. And if it's a different genre, I can just read about it later and say hmm... that doesn't make me like the movie any better. Glad I didn't stick around for 7 more wasted mintues.
MGS4! Like 3 hours of video after the credits, then some more credits, and more video, then finally the end. I'm not saying that it was a movie BTW, the gameplay(and MGO) was and is insanely awesome.
AliShaikh_Returns
@theformatter: Nice Farris reference !
@Stirk: I am embarrassed to admit that I often complain when the theater doesn't raise the house lights at the end of the movie. I always thought someone just forgot to do it. Now I guess I know why they sometimes wait. Thanks for the tip.
@Conrad: *hiring
@nwaasob: I do it for both those reasons and the off chance there is something at the end.
@Stirk: They do that over here too. It's really cool :P
@carrythebanner: So that I can watch the same movie twice?
@Diet-Orange-Soda:
If I am able to I do stick around for credits. Unfortunately the theater I go to has the best fresh-brewed iced tea... so I am usually approaching kidney failure by the end of the movie and must run for the exit. I absolutely refuse to go before the credits run.
Razorgirl
@Conrad: i went through film school and we always sat through credits. it's a way to honor all the people who worked on the film.
but more importantly it does serve as a segway back into life. you spend an hour and a half to two hours enraptured in a false world. the black time of the credits lets you settle back down and come back to reality.
that, and you do learn some stuff about where the movie was shot and that sort.
nicesocks
@redskull: "I've never understood some people's need to bolt out of their seats and literally run for the exit the second the movie is over. Unless your bladder is full to the brim, just relax. Sit there and wait for the crowd to thin out a bit."
Ditto. I hate lines, and I hate'em even more if it's a line to get out of a darn theater... Might as well wait it out while sitting comfortably :P
If it's a theater that has the movie in multiple auditoriums with times that overlap they have multiple film sets of the same movie. Unless it was the same film roll, the fact that the credits were clear at another showing does not necessarily mean it was the projectionists' fault.
DeloresPompeii
Ever since Ferris told me to go home and get a life, I've always left when the credits started.......
Actually, my wife is one of those who likes to wait for the crowds to thin down, so she's gotten me in the habit of sitting thru the credits. Our kids hate this.
@Brodie Krause:
10 minutes? Yeah I've tried that, but then I realize I don't really care who the Key Grip or the Best Boy is or who catered the set. I'm sure they're all great guys, but I don't know these people and I'm not going to remember their names 10 minutes after I leave the theatre. I'll stay if I'm reasonably sure there's something after the credits.
Marc McDonald
@Diet-Orange-Soda: I stick around if I know someone in the film, or someone that has worked on it.
Otherwise, because I have no intention of highering any of them, I tend to leave shortly after the end of the movie. If I worked in the industry I would have more reason to stick around.
@Stirk: This doesn't work at my theater because they leave the lights off during the credits regardless if there's a stinger or not.
@Stirk: I do the same as you.
jcrockerman
@razordu30: i honestly think my DVD of potc 1 does not contain the stinger. now i gotta go home, and find the dvd.
@deanbmmv:
Ah, but is it better than the book!?
Or worse than the movie!?!
bucky
Wow! I'm surprised no one has twigged to this one yet. Usually, (at least in my personal experience) if a movie has a scene at the end of the credits, or a "Stinger" as the kids are calling them these days, the theatre won't raise the house lights*. Every time the lights stay dim, I hang around just in case. Every time, so far.. I've been rewarded.
*Your theatres may not do this, but every one I have been to does. Very nice of them.
Thanks for posting this! After their servers come back up I will definitely be checking this site out.
@FrisbeeNaked - Sorry, PotC 1 definitely had the stinger. My girlfriend (now wife) saw it opening night, then watched it 8 more times in the theater, and can attest to it =)
razordu30
Napoleon Dynamite - Best post-credit scene ever! Thankfully, my dad tipped me off to the fact I should wait for it.
Another way to find out if there's a bonus scene after the credits: sit there and watch. I've never understood some people's need to bolt out of their seats and literally run for the exit the second the movie is over. Unless your bladder is full to the brim, just relax. Sit there and wait for the crowd to thin out a bit. Unless you're a doctor, your time isn't that valuable that you can't spend an extra 5 minutes in the theater.

Hasn't IMDb been doing this for a while under the 'Crazy Credits' part?
MerlinMacroshaft
i usually stick around until the end of the credits every time i go unless i need to make a dash to the bathroom.
I love it when the cleaning guys stand there and stare at me because they have to wait until everyone is gone before they can start cleaning.
The theaters where I live tell you at the beginning of the credits to wait for the extra scene. The trick is simply to be able to read a few words of Thai...
Aarrrgh
Of course, you don't need this service for Pixar movies; they virtually always have a end sting. And you can see whose animator's kids ended up doing voices. Not to mention one never gets tired of watching Luxo hop across the screen to turn himself off.
dmoisan
@MerlinMacroshaft:
seems like imdb isn't as good with new movies
JoeGrizzly
@tatsuyame: Or altournatively, you could view the google's cached version. Not as pretty, but you will see everything that is there.
Mason Strong
@nwaasob: My father would sit through the credits with, I think, more focus than during the movie. As a "below the line" Hollywood guy (special effects, costume design), he was looking to see who'd done what work, if he knew anyone, etc. And, perhaps, a bit of nwaasob's take, as well. Many people take less money for their work if they can get screen credit.
It's an odd business, the moviemaking one.
gyffes
looks like the site if back up and working - good stuff

Two best stingers of al time: 2. Airplane 1. Ferris Beuler's Day Off
HansNumsane
@carrythebanner: Haha. Think that's bad? When I went to the midnight showing of Iron Man (midnight, mind you...so the movie's done at 2am, and the theater filled with hardcore fans stoked on energy drinks), a theater full of people waited for the fore-told stinger with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. We wait and wait, and *right* as the credits black fades up to Stark's apartment, the projectionist shuts the projector clean off.
I have never heard so much angry yelling in a movie theater at once. I seriously thought there would be violence, if they hadn't quickly turned it back on.
@FrisbeeNaked: FrisbeeNaked == first person to hit on the *real* reason you sit through credits. :-P
@jokono: No, it didn't. Don't worry, your bladder made the right call.
@OCEntertainment: Wait. Did Star Trek have a "stinger"? I finally saw it on Sunday, but I didn't stick around for possible post-credit extras -- the large diet coke in my bladder was quite insistent that I leave promptly.
jokono
I generally get annoyed by the people who just have to sit through the thirty minute credits to see one eight second clip. This is probably because I work at a theater though and I need to get as many people through as possible in the shortest time; especially during the summer months when shows are lined up back to back and the only time for our ushers to clean the auditoriums is during the credits. Unfortunately we can't clean or even turn the house lights on until everyone leaves that way we don't disturb their movie-going experience. I'm going to start suggesting this to every customer who comes through and asks if there's anything during or after the credits.
Brian Huntsman
@four12: i'll sit through credits too ... i paid to see the movie in a theater, and the credits are part of what i paid to see, so i'm getting my money's worth
Nice find!!
Thank you LifeHacker!!! =D
pvtryan2
wow... I dunno... it's pretty ridiculous that they were able to base an entire website on a 'yes' or 'no', whether a movie has an after-credit scene.
But at the same time, it's commendable! Kudos to them for making a site based on a 50% chance of a clip showing at the end of the movie, and being able to make that site even remotely popular.
atomicrabbit
I've never understood why no one stays for the credits. It's an integral part of the movie-watching experience for me.
Herb Caudill
@Viewer: ...and imdb while I'm at it. I haven't used it much myself, but I noticed that it seems to be popular around here and has some snippets of info. that Wikipedia doesn't.
Viewer
@Brian Huntsman: Sounds more like you should get annoyed at the movie makers who insist on putting shit after the credits. If they didn't do that, or just ran in in a little side window at the start of the credits like some movies do, you wouldn't have nearly as many people waiting for the credits to end. You really can't blame people who paid to watch a movie for sitting and watching the ENTIRE movie.
I'd like to see a mash-up of this with Rotten Tomatoes and theater listings.
Viewer
@Stirk:
For one movie. One of the staff told people to stay if they wanted to watch the stinger. Now that is service.
Too bad its only happened once.
I like staying till people are cleared out too. But most of the time I watch credits with no stinger, or leave in the middle of the credits and miss it.
kyot
Or just go to imdb.com and look on the left panel for something like "Crazy Credits".

I think we broke them..

Nice, we broke them.
