@jackwooly: I'm not even a fanboy and that sends chills up my spine.

  • wewillchange

wowzers it encodes for my zune Version 1.05fail
Can't believe I bought that thing. But this will be good for putting movies on it...least the screens nice.

  • jackwooly

    iTouch?

You're gonna get bashed by some fanboys for that.

    jackwooly

  • syko21

WinFF also does this nicely but its not broken down into per device settings like this.

  • lbrtdy

I just use media coder, been using it for years and it hasn't disappointed me yet.

    lbrtdy

  • pcx339

oooh...nice. I hope it gets mpegs onto my appletv with better soundtrack synchronization than VLC!!

  • Gotlactose

Any chance that this can handle .srt subtitle conversions?

Oh well, time to test this in my virtual machine, will report back.

  • ericesque

    @Senethior459:
Seriously? THAT is a touchy subject? (pun fully intended)

I've always called it the iTouch. I didn't even notice Jason used it in the article until Jackwooly mentioned it.

    @wewillchange:
What is there to not like about Zune?

    ericesque

  • Senethior459

@jackwooly: It's not an iTouch, it's an iPod Touch!
    (Satisfied?)

  • RustyO918

@wewillchange: Hope it's under warranty. You obviously got sent the wrong device.

And you need to update if you think the software sucks... It's been better than iTunes since version 2...

Personally, I love my Zune 120. Stays in my car, syncs from my drive way.

  • greeze

@Wewtaco: Wait... what? How is it fanboyish if he doesn't like his Zune? How can it be ignorant if he owns one and those are his real-life experiences with it? Did I just completely miss your sarcasm or something?

  • mados123

Used this for my Zune and for batch encoding. Excellent program. As simple as it gets!

    Thanks for sharing!

But I still prefer Clone2Go DVD Ripper. it works like a bomb!

it can not only rip dvd movies and convert videos for ipod, iphone, psp, zune, blackberry, etc, it also allows you to download videos from youtube for your mobile player, taking YouTube on the road!

another point is that it lets you customize the output profile as well.

  • Wewtaco

@wewillchange: That comment was so incredibly ignorant and fanboyish I'm not even going to argue with it.

    Wewtaco

  • Jason Fitzpatrick

@jackwooly: Fixed =) No bashing required.

  • Jrsy Devil's Food Cake®

I've used 3GP Converter for a long time. It's worked very well for me. The only downside is that it hasn't been updated in a long time so it handles a limited number of file types/formats.

  • wewillchange

@ericesque: Always freezes, if theres a lot of light you can't see the screen, shit battery life, slow navigation, horrible software, and I could go on.

  • wewillchange

@RustyO918: Yea the wireless sync is sweet. It's one of those things that have a few really awesome features but for me it's been a hassle...maybe I will send it back in.

@Wewtaco: It's not fanboyish at all. The product I bought did not work the way I wanted it to. Can I not state my grievances with anything non apple without being a fan boy?

  • smith134

I am using and happy with "format factory". There is more option rather than it.

You must be reading my mind. I was just looking for a tool like this. God, this site is good.

I got this canon vixia hf10 and AVCHD files are a major headache to handle. EncodeHD deals with them with a single click of a button. Nicely done, enough said...

There appears to be a inverse direct correlation between age and number of buttons to click that can be put up with... EncodeHD nicely satisfies that requirement.

  • mrsilver

If it will automatically add the encoded files to iTunes, then I could finally get away from the ad-riddled Videora.

    mrsilver

  • Acidzburns

I am using elemental badaboom to convert my stuff to ipod touch format or PSP and it still works very well and the interface is slick

  • deanhatescoffee

I've been using Vuze to stream/convert my media files from my PC to my Xbox 360. It's worked flawlessly. I haven't needed it to convert files for anything else yet (iPhone, etc) but if Vuze doesn't work for those then I'll keep EncodeHD in mind.

  • MonaMagumpus

Try AllToAVI, it's free, simple yet powerfull, and yes it support srt (and other sub format).

    MonaMagumpus

  • apollo432

I've worked with the author of EncodeHD during it's development. It differs slightly from the other GUI's available today, in that the purpose of EncodeHD is to output the best quality file, regardless of conversion time, and to make the process as simple as possible.

    apollo432

  • MelvilleBaboon

Too bad it won't work for Nintendo DS (.dpg). For that I use BatchDPG which also uses ffmpeg. EncodeHD is missing a lot of customizing options.

    MelvilleBaboon

  • FaithIshcabibble

I second lbrtdy, MediaCoder's my fave so far. I tried EncodeHD to get my movies to ipod touch.. but encodeHD doesn't offer subtitle embedding.. Might try it once they put that feature in.

  • Sean Masters

Anyone know how fast this converts between various file formats?

    Sean Masters

  • SamburgerHandwich

@lbrtdy: I don't like the way it crops movies for batches. If you use autocrop, it applies the same cropping to every file, which is worthless. I haven't found anything better, though...

    SamburgerHandwich

  • da5id_nz

I might give it a try; however (thanks to the last thread on this subject) I recently tried Ripbot264 and it is gold. It's so much faster than anything else I've tried before! And the quality is superb.

    da5id_nz

  • Gotlactose

@MonaMagumpus: I'm looking for something like SUPER: from a wide selection of format to another wide selection of formats. It'd be possible to first run the .avi files through AlltoAVI for the subtitles, then convert the new file to MP4 so I can get it on my iPod, but why do it in two steps when I can do it one? :P

  • y0himba

@y0himba: By the way, I was converting to Playstation 3 format.

  • y0himba

It took me 38 minutes to convert a DVD quality mpg that was about 43 minutes long. Not only that, but it pegged all four of my cores (Q6600 Intel Quad Core) at 100% that entire time. Needs a bit of optimizing.
