CopyPasteTool Is A Tiny, Dead-Simple Clipboard Helper
Windows only: Lightweight utility CopyPasteTool saves multiple strings of clipboard text, and then cycles between them easily using the keyboard.
Once installed, the utility puts an icon in your system tray—but otherwise runs completely in the background with very little memory usage. To use the new function, simply copy a couple of different pieces of text to the clipboard, and then hold down the Control key while hitting the V key more than once, and the utility will cycle through the various pieces of text on the clipboard. It’s tiny, simpleand is meant to do just one thing—but it could be a very useful utility for anybody that does a lot of copying and pasting of simple text.
CopyPasteTool is a free download for Windows only. For more, learn how to create a dedicated hotkey to paste plain text in Microsoft Word.

clip tray only lets you copy up to 100 characters per entry - lame!

I'm a lover of ClipMate but unfortunately it's not free.
@mados123: Oh yes!
I'm loving ClipX as well. I've set up CTRL+SHIFT+V as the ClipX shortcut, so CTRL+V works as normal, and the ClipX function is handily available.
The ability to choose whether images should be handled or ignored is excellent, as well as the ability to selectively clean the history (1 particular item, all items, all image-items).
Furthermore, the sticky-plugin for ClipX gives you the ability to make some choices permanent, as in always available in the clipboard-history.
And it works perfectly in 64bit Windows 7!

Are there any autohotkeys that duplicate this? Also agree that there should be a option to remove clips or limit function based on app.

Been using ClipX here which has been working like a charm. I usually right-click, paste and ClipX allows for you to select which word, phrase or image you want to paste as its clipboard gives you a visual of your choices. I'll check out CopyPasteTool though.

@GeoffCJ: I had to right click the installer and Run as Administrator on Windows 7

@Peeved Guy:
ArsClip and ClipX [[bluemars.org]] are the best I have come across.
This "CopyPasteTool" is indeed dead-simple which is great but I don't like the fact it uses 2,500K + on my comp for a featureless app, where as ClipX is atm using 450K.

Perfect for how I use copy/paste pretty much all day every day! I work in tier 1(tier 2-ish tasks many times)HelpDesk at a media company and I'm constantly copying/pasting things in Active Directory, MS Exchange Management Console, and other systems. Thanks!
@Peeved Guy: I forgot to mention that ArsClip also requires no install.

I've been using ArsClip ([www.joejoesoft.com]) for a while now and have been very happy with it. Allows you to not only keep the last several items copied, but also set up templates for those things frequently pasted. The one advantage the tool above seems to have is the ability to scroll through the clipboard with Ctrl+v
Peeved Guy
Yowch. It would be nice if maybe you could disable the tool for certain applications. Visual Studio already has a cycling clipboard (via Ctrl-Shift-V), and I can definitely see montreux's point with it screwing up IntelliSense; it's other applications that I could use this app for. Hmm...

I've just tried this using when writing code and it has some big limitations. The first paste is fine, the subsequent ones happen by deleting one by one every character just pasted then adding the previous clipboard entry character by character. You can see it happening, it is like someone is typing at your computer. The problem with this is twofold:
1. If you press ctrl-V twice, you don't just press ctrl-Z twice to undo. Your undo history now has every single character in it.
2. If your editor has any kind of intellisense then it can conflict. I was getting double-level comments and things like that
montreux
Sweet, thanks. :)

@E-Rock: FYI, if you have access to the command prompt, you can usually navigate in DOS to the setup file and run it from there. that often gets around install restrictions.
mohan37
yeah, would be also interested to know how to remove entries i don't need no more

The default installer is running fine for me on Vista 64
KaraToad
Anyone able to get this to work on Vista 64bit?
Clipboard Help and Spell has worked well for me so far.
Jwhite1979
This is just what I have always been wanting. One major problem though is that you can't now hold down ctrl and hammer the v key to paste loads of times... :(
AltheaAristaeus
That is pretty nifty.
So anyone know how to remove items from the clipboard?
Also, what seems to be the limit of items it keeps?

I've been happy with Ditto:

This looks really cool, but I don't have install privileges on my work machine. Are there any similar portable solutions? Perhaps an AHK script?
@SloYerRoll: A 168-K application worth its weight in gold... there is a "data size vs application value" joke in there somewhere... I just can't put my finger on it.
Thank you thank you thank you!
This will be worth it's weight in gold for me!
Did I say thank you?

the best clipboard extender (and yes I have tried ClipMate, ArsClip, Yankee Clipper, ClipX, and several others) is ClipCache Pro, from xRayz software. They also have a 64-bit native version. Lightweight, feature rich, uses a SQLite engine (robust, quick). Only drawback is, it's not free. But you get what you pay for.
Wow, this will be so useful!
I'm tired of opening notepad and pasting information that i think i may use again later. This will be perfect!
ClipX is thee bomb. mem usage is 500K-2000K
The only thing CopyPasteTool tray icon offers you, is "exit". It seems strange to me that only when I release the CTRL key the copied text will be _really_ pasted. Browsing through the 'V' button.. yeyy.. cool for a minute then its not.
I'd like to see a showoff between the other great clipboard managers offered here.

I haven't tested the program in question, though I will.
Currently, I use the Yankee Clipper III freeware version.
The number of items it will keep on a clipboard is limited, but it can be plain text, formatted text, pictures and even other stuff. All the items are listed plainly, you don't have to scroll through them except when multi-line text is involved.

GAH!!!
I had just about finished a project similar to this in VB.Net.
I'll finish it up anyway just for the practice :D
This seems more efficient than my app.
Thanks.
TheGopher10
@Zundfolge: just navigate yourself on over to:
c:\WINDOWS\system32\clipbrd.exe
run the file and you have access to whatever it is that is on your clipboard. You can see text entries and the address of other files, such as images etc you copy on your computer, is listed.
Cheers.

Totaly awesome piece of sofware hepled with writing a lot of code that was copied from several programs saved me about 20-30 min

Installer has errors and can't download. Running Vista 64bit. Any one else with the same problem or know how to fix it?
shadows006
@mohan37: I actually was able to just install it to My Documents instead of Program Files and it works fine :D But thanks!
wow ditto is pretty good - lots of features and I have only a couple of minor problems with it. thanks for the tip!

ClipX is the best for me and using it since quite a long time.
It also has various addons which can be added to it.

I have been singing the praises of TextBeast for a while, but I just find it to be simple and more effective than any of the other ones I have used (and I tried several before sticking with this one). See my previous post, free version available...paid upgrade worth it:

I think I've tried them all. All clipboard programs that is :)
I've with arsClip that is extremely powerful/versatile. It is under constant development and the program developer is friendly and helpful. Strongly recommended

+1 for Arsclip
Been using the free Clipomatic for years, and couldn't live without it. Also has "permanent" clipsets that can be edited for commonly-used bits that need pasting. (Clipomatic is from the same coder that brings you Startup Control Panel.)
SwastiErechtheus
+1 on ClipCache Pro. Have been using it since version 1.6 or so? Awesome tool, and able to capture all kinds of content, not just text. PrintScreen copies a bitmap to your Clipboard. You can automate pasting of common items with hotkeys. You can set up auto-scrolling through your copied items, and the only limit on the size of your archive seems to be memory (mine is currently over 400MB).

Glipper is another utility that is similar, but runs on gnome. http://glipper.sourceforge.net/

@Zundfolge: The limit (oh so easily tested in Notepad) is eleven.
@Zenzo: That file doesn't exist in Vista. A quick search finds people recommending that Vista users copy it from an XP machine if they want it.
@Brent James Millard: That would be:
168KB download
660 KB in RAM (for me)
The question is, which weighs the most: RAM, bandwidth, or drive space?
Been waiting for this app for YEARS. This should be native to OSs
