Windows only: If you’re a fan of portable thumb drive applications like previously mentioned PortableApps.com Suite, free application CodySafe brings similar portable computing to your thumb drive.
Like the PortableApps.com Suite, CodySafe lets you carry your favourite applications with you so you can access them from any computer. The installation is straight forward.
The CodySafe navigation bar (which looks similar to Vista’s Start menu) gives you quick access to your documents, pictures, music and video, while the options tab lets you access the applications manager so you can add, remove and organize your apps. You can also set your CodySafe settings there and choose applications you’d like to autorun. As an added bonus, a built-in drive doctor monitors the health of your device.
While CodySafe doesn’t have nearly as many customisation features as PortableApps.com, the company’s web site claims instead that it offers features PortableApps and others don’t, such as the ability to add apps that aren’t compatible with the PortableApps.com framework and automatically ranking apps based on frequency of use.
Currently in beta, future versions will include an extended backup and synchronisation tool and encryption of files and folders, among other updates. CodySafe is a free download, Windows only.
