Primitive Word Counter Analyses Word And Phrase Frequency
You can check the number of words in just about any word processing program, but what about the distribution of those words?
Primitive Word Counter analyses text from your clipboard or file and returns the frequency of words and phrases in the text. You can set a minimum word length and have it ignore numbers to trim down the volume of replies it returns. Primitive Word Counter automatically scrubs out punctuation and control characters from the text. Primitive Word Counter is freeware, Windows only.

@Lazarus: lol! Okay just the condescension. Let the arrogance and sarcasm continue.
I don't see how finding the most frequent words in some text is gonna help anyone. Except ppl trying to improve their rank on Google or something.

@Lazarus: or to Giz for the word "Apple"...
How about finding something like their Primitive Change Case which works in the background as either a right-click menu or keyboard command option when editable text is selected? Primitive Change Case looks very useful, but I would I would like more direct access to its functions.
I got an idea, add chase changing keyboard command options to Texter?

Interesting. If you are looking for a more powerful program that runs on many platforms, may I suggest AntConc?

@SirSmiley: That would leave the comments section practically empty!
I wonder if we can apply this to the LH site to see how often the word Ikea appears.
@baron_army: God, I often have to review my peer's essays and reports. I should refer them all to this program so they can scan their work before they pass it on to me for markup.
Similar Mac program can be found here: http://www.supermagnus.com/mac/Word_Counter/index.html

Pretty neat. Doesn't beat a second pair of eyes circling oft-used phrases (thanks S!!), but like spell/grammar check, good to use prior to the real editing.
@baron_army: That's an overly simplistic view. Anyone who's written a report beyond five pages knows that using these tools consistently will take more time in the long run. However, using tools to help improve your writing skills and save time manually editing are just common sense.
Not all college students read and write at those levels. If only there were a tool to remove arrogance and condescension from posts.
@l337_7r4d3r: 18.18% like, 18.18% totally. You sicken me.
This is nice, but not revolutionary... Grammatica IV (back in the ancient days of DOS and cavemen) did word count, grammatical analysis (wrong voice, grade level, hackneyed phases,etc...), and made suggestions to improve your writing. It had templates for resumes, different types of presentations, and articles. A VERY impressive bit of code. Where is something like THAT?

All the programs from this site are pretty neat. Wish I has the word counter a month ago.
Great. You mean today's college students who have a 5th grade reading and writing level can now have their grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage monitored and modified by their word processor?!
Why do I feel like Orwell, Kafka, and Gilliam (see: Brazil) are conspiring somehow....

Mac equivalent to this? Great program.

Like, you know. Whatever! It's like, I know, right? Totally...

Also check the open-source TextStats.

@dragonskin:
You're probably thinking of this little app from Daily Cup of Tech, which I believe Lifehacker covered.
PageFour includes a similar feature, along with some other nifty writing tools I haven't seen in any other software. I couldn't justify $35 for it, but I used to have a copy from Giveaway of the Day (before I reinstalled Windows). You can have up to 3 notebooks with up to 20 "pages" (outline nodes" in each without buying the full version.
@resilient:
Very useful indeed but for some reason I feel I have seen this software elsewhere, maybe a different name but the same feature.
dragonskin
useful app. Nice for checking my essays for verbose phrases.

@QasimOgodai@QasimOgodai: The program you want is Word Counter from Supermagnus Software. Supposedly it's for 10.5+, but it works fine in 10.4.11 apparently. http://www.supermagnus.com/mac/Word_Counter/index.html

We should send this to today's politicians so they could remove the "The fact of the Matter" and "Going forward" from every thing they say.

@Firasco: It's for, like, if you keep, like, using the same phrase or, like, word, over and over, like, again. It cam be, like, really useful if, like, you have to write a, like, five page essay.
Like.
