I Forgot The Milk Puts Remember The Milk In Your Vista Sidebar
Windows Vista only: Sidebar gadget I Forgot The Milk adds quick access to your to-do list right in your Vista sidebar.
Installing the gadget is easy enough—just download, add to your sidebar, and then authenticate the gadget with Remember the Milk. Once you’ve done that, you can choose which list you want to display and easily add tasks right from the sidebar gadget itself.
The configuration dialog has plenty of settings to choose from, including making the gadget taller—sadly you can’t make it any wider, so your to-do items might be a little cramped for viewing at a glance. Overall it’s a slick, useful gadget and a lot simpler than hacking your own RTM gadget together.
I Forgot The Milk is a free download, Windows Vista only. If Vista gadgets aren’t your style, you can get Remember the Milk in Gmail, use Remember the Task for a standalone window, or just add tasks in a flash with Remember the Milk for Launchy.

This came a little late now that I'm all used to launching Google Tasks from Chrome shortcut... Hmm.
Okay, the sheer number of Remember the Milk apps in different places seem to be the siren call to get me to use the damned service. I desperately need an integrated to-do app that will follow me around...maybe I should just take the plunge.
Tried this, I found the syntax from launchy or even the one click nature of digsby was less frustrating. Every time you need to edit or add slightly more complicated details to anything you have to open a browser window. No thanks.
However, if you just need a postit-like application to keep track of a simple list of things, sure this works.
Are there any apps that encourage you to ACTUALLY DO the things in your TODO list? I stick things in ToDo lists, and having them highlighted in red when they are (over)due doesn't really phase me much. Maybe I need something to start shutting off internet service or something until I start marking things as done, but then I'd just mark it done to get my access back.

And don't forget about that one thing, posted on Lifehacker awhile ago, that lets you use Vista sidebar on XP:

I've found that the best solution for me is to create a chrome application shortcut for the RTM igoogle gadget . This way you can resize the window however you like (which you cannot do with the Vista gadget). You can even adjust the transparency by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T. I just threw the shortcut in my startup folder so it fires up on its own when I reboot.

Navy Federal Credit Union rocks! Their hours of operation are incredible. I once got a mortgage approved at 11PM at night, when my wife and the realtor were in Dallas, TX and I was in Atlanta, GA.

No thanks. Vista side bar took up way too much room. That and I'm usually in firefox which has all the apps already in it.
@GoPadge: That's actually a real to-do from my list... my brother has an account there, and so I recently found out that I can get one too. Sweet!
@Phokal: Note: iPhone app requires the use of a Pro account. Not "free"
@phoenix: works well on the iPhone, does not integrate or play nice with Outlook. I've just been using the browser at home, though the Chrome app idea sounds interesting.
Thx, LH, been looking for something like this and it's great. If you have a wide-screen monitor (or multiple monitors), the sidebar is great.
@TheOtherHalf: On my G1 (or any Android device, I guess), there's an app called Astrid, that syncs with RTM, and when a task is due, it harasses you.
Doesn't sync repeating tasks, though. But since my repeating tasks are menial stuff like "tidy living room" every few days, I just left them off RTM and made them repeat on Astrid.
I needed to call about a credit card issue thanks!

@redmonke255: Windows 7!
The creator of this sdebar gadget has made another one for displaying an agenda of your google calendar events (link below). I find that very useful and it works in a very similar way to this gadget.

This works perfectly in Windows 7, too...just installed it.

The latest betas of Rainlendar support RTM as well.

@phoenix: RTM is currently going through a bit of a user revolt because of a lack in development and a complete communication dry-up. Better look at the alternatives, too - ToodleDo, for example, offers the same functionality.

@TheOtherHalf: I use RTM and I always do what I add to my task list. I think it's matter of discipline and will :)

I agree. RTM is so busy concentrating on putting their app everywhere that they are completely ignoring user requests and haven't upgraded their product in months. They are openly hostile to paid users right now, telling us in their forums that they simply cannot and will not share their status, and that gee - if we could just see how busy they all are, we would know what is going on and that they are indeed working to bring out bug fixes and enhancements.
Talk is cheap and for all that squawking, nothing is getting enhanced or fixed and hasn't in months.
Many users have stopped trying and have migrated to Toodledo or other services. RTM is in trouble. Don't waste your money.
