Firefox 3.0.9 Update Patches Critical Security Issues
Mozilla dropped a small but important update for its browser last night. The code patches fix 12 security issues, some of them critical, fixes inline images not showing up for AOL and AIM mail users, and (hopefully) solving an issue with some New Window commands not giving the new browser window focus. Hit your About menu and select “Check for Updates,” or upgrade from your Linux repositories to grab the fixes.

@Avian00: You sure you installed the Firefox update and not something else? I've updated Firefox on 3 machines this morning and none of them asked for a reboot (not that a Firefox update would ever aske for a reboot).

@wqwert: Are you using the beta?

@dragonskin: I'm not going to lie, the fact that you can visit lifehacker and comment and still have 9.3mb to download is sad. :\

No reboot required, but it installed the Yahoo toolbar add-on. WTF is up with that?!?!?

@Avian00: You mean the "FF is already running on your system" stuff?
Like, 4 seconds to kill it from the command line, or task manager.

The reason the yahoo toolbar was installed I'm assuming is that when the updater ran it's installer app you clicked "next" right passed the page that said Include the "Yahoo! Toolbar for easier, faster Searching" or something to that affect.
However, the reboot sounds weird and maybe that's also a part of the yahoo installation, but normally you shouldn't have to be rebooting your PC to install Firefox much less an update.

Anyone know how to get inline images to show up when I'm composing a Gmail email? In Internet Explorer I can copy/paste an image into the body of the email, but in Firefox I just get a small, plain box with no image.
When I saw the line above that said "fixes inline images not showing up for AOL" I was hoping that meant my Gmail "problem" was fixed.
Not a big deal, just curious to see if anyone knows a way to do it.
Thanks!

@Avian00: No reboot here...
@Gagball: You actually need to turn this feature on. Go to your settings and click the "Labs" link. Scroll down to "Inserting Images" and enable this feature. Save the changes. Next time you compose an email, you'll have a new icon in the formatting toolbar that allows you to insert images into the message.
@tim d: Checked your system for malware recently? Mozilla definitely wouldn't add the Yahoo toolbar as part of a security update...
updated fine - reboot Firefox and ready to roll again. read the release notes. they are still encountering aspects of URL spoofing. listed as non-critical, hmmm. I think not. what version did they implement Extended Validation SSL? I didn't see it in the major fix list.

Just a reminder for anyone who's using the Firefox Preloader. It works well enough, but it needs to be shut down before you apply the update. who knows, I'm probably the only one here using the preloader, but just in case.
I had some trouble when FF 3.0.9 had to restart .... preloader fkkkt with it so that I thought I'd better just do a full reinstall of FF, then reinstate my profile, then restart the preloader. If this "preloader" didn't put a bit of zip into FF starts and restarts, I'd just kick it off my system and forget it.
Got to hand it to Moz though. They're fast with the critical updates.
