If the DIY Fibre Optic Ring Flash we wrote about last month required too many specialist parts for your taste, check out this much simpler remix. The construction is easy and done with common household items. The blog entry itself isn’t in English, but the abundant photos speak for themselves. To build this ring flash, you’ll need some pretty easy-to-find components. The body of the ring flash is built out of a plastic food container, which looks pretty similar to the plastic takeout containers my local Chinese take-out spot uses. From there the project follows the path of DIY greatness, requiring white card stock, tinfoil, and, of course, duct tape. While the end result don’t have the fancier features of a commercial flash ring, it does get the job done for casual use and experimentation. DIY Ring Flash [via Make]
We’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you wipe down your kitchen counters every day. What about cleaning the seals of your dishwasher? We didn’t think so. Apartment Therapy lightly reminds its readers of commonly overlooked areas that contribute to an overall clean, hygienic feel to any kitchen. Among them? If you’ve got a dishwasher, clean inside it. Pay special attention to areas where dirt can build up, like the rubber seal around the door and the top edge of the door as well.
Upon inspection of my own dishwasher, it became apparent why an occasional wipe-down made their list of deep-cleaning musts. Even if you feel like an area doesn’t get used often, the crannies of any kitchen can get fairly dirty from the smoke and grease of cooking. For more nooks to clean this weekend or for later on your to-do list, check out their full list. Photo by blmurch. Five Things We Never Think to Clean in the Kitchen [ApartmentTherapy]

Keep your bathroom hand towels tidy, dry, and accessible by re-purposing a wine rack into a towel holder. Apartment Therapy blog reader Paper Cakes was looking for a simple way to keep towels handy in her bathroom, as the standard wall-mounted hanging bar only keeps a couple of them neatly dry. After scoring a wine rack at a yard sale, she put it to work holding rolled up hand towels. Simple, unique, and a path to reducing future clutter. What other ways could a wine rack be repurposed? Curious Lifehacker editors with too many wine racks on their hands are dying to know. Wine Rack Repurposed To Hold Towels In The Bathroom [Apartment Therapy]
